The Braunschweig tramway (German: Straßenbahn Braunschweig) is a network of tramways forming part of the public transport system in Braunschweig, a city in Lower Saxony, Germany.
Opened in 1879, the network has been operated since its inception by the company now known as Braunschweiger Verkehrs GmbH (formerly Braunschweiger Verkehrs-AG), and is integrated in the Verkehrsverbund Region Braunschweig (VRB).

Around 88,000 to 100,000 passengers use the trams on a daily basis.[1]
The fastest line in the network is line 1 with an average speed of 33 km/h. The overall average speed of the network is 25.87 km/h, lines vary from 20.25 km/h up to 33 km/h. Over 81% of the system is on segregated tracks and has more traffic priority. This achieves a higher average speed compared to other systems in Germany, which is usually between 16 and 20 kilometers per hour. Due to this reason the Tram System is called a Stadtbahn System but it lacks an underground tunnel in the main part where most lines join.[2]
