Dab page talk pages

Hallo and Season's Greetings. Please read the documentation for {{WP Disambiguation}} which states that you should not create a talk page containing this template and nothing else, as you did at Talk:Lindal (disambiguation). In this it is different from most Wikiproject banners. (The wikiproject can recognise all dab pages by their categorisation, and the existence of the talk page wastes editors' time as they go to check for nonexistent relevant discussion while working on a page). Thanks. PamD 07:52, 25 December 2024 (UTC)

Hello, thank you for bringing this to my attention and for the explanation. I will not create talk pages with only the template in the future. Kind regards, --CaptainOlimar42 (talk)

Slawomir

You wrote "The article Vladimir also cited Behindthename.com for years, " - this does not mean that it was right for all these . It was discussed at WP:RSN in 2009 and in in 2019 (but no action taken, probably because given names are nonpolitical and otherwise non-sensitive area, with limited interest from Wikipedians.)

The website is a hobby of a non-expert. What is more important, the pages have no refs for their wisdom. On the other hand, if they did have refs, we'd better off using these. Therefoore ciiting behind the name is in a clear violation of Wikipedia policy. --Altenmann >talk 22:02, 12 December 2025 (UTC)

First of all, in the two discussions you linked, I don't see any consensus for Behind The Name to be classified as an unreliable source. The only gripe users pointed out is the fact that it's maintained by a single person and not a team of experts. But in both discussions from 2009 and 2019, it is mentioned by some editors that the quality of the page is high and it should not just be dismissed outright.
Regarding Behind The Name itself: The website has been around for over 20 years, and is quite respected in anthroponymy as a reliable source. Large databases like Behind The Name are usually not completely free of errors, but in general, the website provides reliable info about name pronunciations, origins and popularity. While Behind The Name does not cite sources on the name pages itself, it does disclose its major sources here. It also offers etymological information, which explain where name meanings originated from. In this, it differs from the vast majority of other websites about names (like babynames.com) that seem to just make stuff up without any explanation. Behind the Name has been cited in quite a few published books () and scholarly literature (). And maybe most importantly, Behind The Name has built up a reputation good enough to be endorsed by a highly respected organization like the New York Public Library (). All of these facts point towards objecting the classification of Behind The Name as an unreliable source.
Finally, regarding the name meanings of Miroslav / Slavomir. You are arguing for the un-reliability of Behind The Name because you disagree with their given meanings of the name component "mir" as "peace, world". Yet, most sources I can find seem to concur with Behind The Name, such as the Dictionary of Medieval Names from European Sources, or this Ukrainian dictionary which is cited in the English Wiktionary article (here). In the article Vladimir, which you reference, there is only one source given for the alternative meaning that you seem to find correct. I don't see any reason why to believe this one source over the others. If anything, both meanings of "mir" can be mentioned in the articles with proper sourcing. But even then, I don't see any reason why Behind The Name should not be part of that sourcing. The fact that it's maintained by only one person is not important when it is widely regarded as reliable. --CaptainOlimar42 (talk) 23:40, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
