Image sizes

Thanks for adding images to Baker Street and London Underground. Please take a look at MOS:IMAGE, especially the bit on image size. Do not force an image size in pixels. Any image sized you have set on those articles have been removed. Shout if you have any questions. Thank you. 10mmsocket (talk) 12:54, 29 October 2024 (UTC)

I won't post any more images on Wikipedia then. Colin McLaughlin (talk) 11:10, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
That's a bit drastic. Post away, just be mindful of the manual of style. 10mmsocket (talk) 13:17, 1 November 2024 (UTC)

Replaceable non-free use File:Cassius Cleaves 001.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Cassius Cleaves 001.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file's talk page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 17:31, 7 August 2025 (UTC)

Information icon Hello! Your image was inserted successfully on the page Cassius Cleaves, but because it appeared to be irrelevant to the article or violated the image use policy, it has been reverted or removed. Please use your sandbox for any tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Wikipedia doesn't use any form of WP:AIIMAGEs to illustrate biographical articles, whether that's fake photos or exaggerated cartoons. Belbury (talk) 13:10, 16 December 2025 (UTC)

Wikipedia doesn't, doesn't, doesn't... doesn't. Colin McLaughlin (talk) 13:48, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
If you don't want to play by the rules then simply don't edit. It would be nice if you responded with civility to others WP:CIVIL 10mmsocket (talk) 13:56, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
I DON'T edit. Moderators on all Wikis have shown me over time that it's not worth editing, because what they say goes, so a contributor is frustrated again and again and again until they decide not to edit because they are being abused as a free resource. I don't edit, as a general rule.
Here, (1) I tried to use a copyright image a while ago (see edit lists) and asserted it was "fair usage" as a once-only use on a Wikipedia page but it got kicked off. (2) I tried to substitute, on Sunday, an adult image, composite, non-copyright, AI generated on Sunday at my request: pretty much a perfect image. I'm told I can't. (3) So I turn it into an AI generated cartoon of the same, again, a pretty good piece of artwork, but I'm told I can't do that either. (4) I have to revert to an out-of-date 13 year old's image which isn't appropriate for a professional rugby player. While I try to resize it, you are at the same time trying to resize it. You decide to crop it, which misses the whole point (watch the 5th try in the video in the semi-final in the first footnote to see why the other three, chasing players are relevant, at least to people who know the history).
AT THE SAME TIME I get no help whatsoever from Wikipedia in finding a non-copyright image. That's for me to do.
Go through these sorts of scenarios again and again on Wikis, doing battle with faceless jobsworths, and eventually you yourself will withdraw, realising (eventually) contributing just isn't worth it. To get a non-copyright AI generated image from ChatGPT took a lot of time. To get it converted into a cartoon image was a lot quicker, but you kick that out too. I have to upload these to Wikimedia Commons, only to have Wikipedia reject them, which then means I have materials on Wikimedia Commons I no longer want there, but have no right to delete as they're in the public domain. I'm left with the usual feeling (again) that engaging with Wikis is a waste of time, don't do it again, maybe not even for the special cases. Yes, you have your rules, but you really don't see it from the other side. Deja vu. Colin McLaughlin (talk) 14:29, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
Sorry to hear that I came across like that! Although cleanup editors do tend to use cold pre-written templates like the one above to save time, we will generally respond constructively if somebody asks for help or clarification, or has a question.
I'd recommend trying https://openverse.org to find freely licenced images (in this case it only returns one of your own photos for Cleaves), checking a YouTube search for creative commons licenced match or interview videos in case there's anything to screenshot (taking a look I can't see anything), reaching out to fans online who might be willing to licence social media photos that they've taken themselves (see WP:IFSM) or even asking Cleaves himself to release a selfie if he's on social media and likely to respond (see WP:PICYOU).
If you want to flag your uploaded files for deletion on Commons you can edit the file pages over there to put {{SD|G7}} at the top - this labels them as "author requests deletion" and they'll get removed.
Apologies again for getting off on the wrong foot. Belbury (talk) 16:53, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
