Thanks for your feedback. Yes, I'm aware that the quotations need to be limited. Obviously, any blockquotes need to be condensed (but, keep in mind, this was a draft that was not actually approved. I was hoping someone would help condense the quotes.)

I'm not really sure how to paraphrase the following, as the language is already condensed:

"1. Wherever possible there must be independent confirmation of the “facts.” 2. Encourage substantive debate on the evidence by knowledgeable proponents of all points of view.

3. Arguments from authority carry little weight — “authorities” have made mistakes in the past. They will do so again in the future. Perhaps a better way to say it is that in science there are no authorities; at most, there are experts.

4. Spin more than one hypothesis. If there’s something to be explained, think of all the different ways in which it could be explained. Then think of tests by which you might systematically disprove each of the alternatives. What survives, the hypothesis that resists disproof in this Darwinian selection among “multiple working hypotheses,” has a much better chance of being the right answer than if you had simply run with the first idea that caught your fancy.

5. Try not to get overly attached to a hypothesis just because it’s yours. It’s only a way station in the pursuit of knowledge. Ask yourself why you like the idea. Compare it fairly with the alternatives. See if you can find reasons for rejecting it. If you don’t, others will.

6. Quantify. If whatever it is you’re explaining has some measure, some numerical quantity attached to it, you’ll be much better able to discriminate among competing hypotheses. What is vague and qualitative is open to many explanations. Of course there are truths to be sought in the many qualitative issues we are obliged to confront, but finding them is more challenging.

7. If there’s a chain of argument, every link in the chain must work (including the premise) — not just most of them.

8. Occam’s Razor. This convenient rule-of-thumb urges us when faced with two hypotheses that explain the data equally well to choose the simpler.

9. Always ask whether the hypothesis can be, at least in principle, falsified. Propositions that are untestable, unfalsifiable are not worth much. Consider the grand idea that our Universe and everything in it is just an elementary particle — an electron, say — in a much bigger Cosmos. But if we can never acquire information from outside our Universe, is not the idea incapable of disproof? You must be able to check assertions out. Inveterate skeptics must be given the chance to follow your reasoning, to duplicate your experiments and see if they get the same result.^[1]"

I agree that the logical fallacies (20 of them) need to be pared down, even if they are worth linking to.

There is no requirement that we replicate what Carl Sagan wrote. It is simply not appropriate to quote that much material, nor do I see a need to have that quoted in order to have an article about it. Write about its impact and use of the toolkit. I noticed that the draft page I was working on in my sandbox (User:DKMS Africa (South Africa)/sandbox) was deleted under G11.

I am affiliated with DKMS Africa and was attempting to create a neutral, well-sourced draft about the organisation using independent sources such as News24, IOL, TimesLIVE, and WMDA statistics.

If the draft came across as promotional, that was not my intention. I would appreciate any guidance on what aspects triggered the G11 deletion so that I can adjust the tone and structure accordingly before recreating the draft.

Based on your user name, it appears you have a conflict of interest. In particular, autobiographies are strongly discouraged. If you insist on creating an autobiography, you will need to create a draft, and submit it for review through [[WP:Article for creation|]. You will need to ensure that you meet Wikipedia's inclusion guidelines for an article. It is unclear what you mean by "sleeper sign". This account you are using is new and not the one you used in 2008. If you remember the name of the account you used in 2008, you can look at the edit history to find the contribution. If you didnot create an account back then, it will be hard to find the contribution. I'm assuming that they are talking about Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cooper's sign. User:Kneezexpert, the article was deleted because the subject did not appear to meet notability criteria as a standalone article. Talk page notices

Hello. I've archived the talk page notices that were left on my talk page. If the image can be deleted under F5, this should have been applied in place of the criteria I selected at the time. I am not at liberty to question an administrator, but there are better ways to communicate and deal with issues, rather than just leaving template banners. I prefer actual communication. I've applied the banner. I am going to AGF here. If the banner is still incorrect, please do not leave another template banner on my talk page as it will begin to clog up my archives. I would instead prefer a direct response here. Having spoken to administrators about CSD before, if the incorrect criteria is applied, the admin can apply the correct one and perform the deletion without needing to decline it. 11WB (talk) 16:32, 11 March 2026 (UTC)

It doesn't really matter either way. You thanked me for patrolling, which I am unable to do as I am not a patroller. I value good communication, and on this occasion, regardless of whether the deletion criteria I applied was wrong (the file was redundant), it has left me feeling irritated and leaves much to be desired. I am not able to advise you due to your status as an administrator, so I now have to deal with three separate notices taking up space in my archive when the solution would have been to delete the file under the correct criteria. 11WB (talk) 16:39, 11 March 2026 (UTC)

I did apply the appropriate deletion template after declining the G6 request. I cannot immediately delete the file as it is not eligible for immediate deletion. I did not apply the template after declining your first request because a bot takes care of tagging unused non-free images. As for not advising me because I am an administrator, I am human editor and can make mistakes. I am always open to feedback and correction. With respect to the wording about new page patrolling, that is part of the boiler plate message. I usually leave talk page notices up in my archives, but you chose to leave 3 separate ones for some reason. You chose to leave another new banner instead of directly responding to my reply. This is an extremely poor communication choice. I've broken my own rule and have removed the notices from my archives. Other administrators view these notices when determining whether an editor is suitable for certain permissions, and to see three of them like that makes it look far worse than what it actually is. I misapplied a CSD criteria, the solution would have been to amend the error yourself, rather than declining my attempts to fix it (which I shouldn't have had to do). As for not being able to delete the file now, it is simply a larger resolution, you could have applied WP:IAR to perform a deletion today that is scheduled to happen in a weeks time anyway. This would have been preferable, as it now means a non-fair use image will be on Wikipedia for 1 week longer, in violation of copyright. 11WB (talk) 17:04, 11 March 2026 (UTC)

Is it really that big of an issue? Administrators do have common sense, they're not going to hold this against you for misapplying the wrong CSD criteria once because there were 3 notices instead of 1. I said this to @Whpq on my talk page, I no longer work in NPP, and my knowledge of remembering thirty different CSD criteria is obviously not going to stick. My focus is on GANs and article improvement. You mention common sense, if that were applied here, @Whpq would have changed the criteria and performed the deletion, or at the very least replied to my messages, rather than posting another new discussion banner. Their communication is poor, it's as simple as that. I made a error applying the criteria, 3 talk page banners (1 being a warning notice) is disproportionate to the mistake, especially when I acted in good faith and applied another deletion criteria, only to be declined again, with only a banner notice in response. I've expressed my annoyance with how they managed this and the situation is now resolved, so I've got nothing further to say here. I've cleared up the mess left on my talk page as well. @Whpq hasn't responded here beyond their second reply, so this is a closed matter. 11WB (talk) 18:26, 11 March 2026 (UTC)

Why do the images look very blurry when viewed in an article and as a file page, but they actually look HQ when the file is viewed like this ? Hi Whpq. What's your assessment of File:LookasLogo.png? It kind of looks too simple to need to be treated as non-free, but it also probably shouldn't be being used for primary identification purposes in the main infobox of Lookas. If the file doesn't need to be treated as non-free, it would seem to fail NFCC#1 for the main infobox to identify Lucas Rego the individual and NFCC#8 anywhere in the article to identify Lookas the brand. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:48, 18 March 2026 (UTC)

Hello. I am working on creating a new page about Sarra Copia Sullam's sonnet titled "Lord, who forever discern my heart." Right now, I am working on formatting the poem correctly. I have figured out how to add indentations, however in the last two stansas the paragraph I try to add for the line "Stir You to be..." and "How my faith..." keep deleting when I try to publish it. Autobiographies are highly discouraged. If you want to practice markup, you can use your sandbox, or dive into editing existing articles. As to Draft:Tom Cortese, I see that User:JBW has reviewed and declined your submission as being too promotional. You would need to ask JBW for the details of why the submission was declined, but my impression after a quick skim is that it reads like a press release and not an encyclopedia article. I don't usually deal with page protection. If you want to make request to protect a page, you should file it at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. Having said that, I do not see any reason to protect the page. The edits you are complaining about are from February, and there is no ongoing persistent disruption. Fair enough. I appreciate the quick response and correct redirection. I used to be a scientific and technical content editor for a non-fiction imprint, but Wikipedia is still new to me -- as are what is sometimes considered encyclopedic/synoptic by community members. In my former line of work, those changes would have been viewed harshly. Thankfully, most people here have been pretty gracious while I adapt to the complexities of this open-source platform. I have no information about sources for freely licensed images that could be used specifically to replace the two images you uploaded. If you are looking for sources more generally, Commons is a sister project that is a library of freely licensed images that would be useful for wikis. Flickr and Youtube have some content that is freely licensed, but you must check the license as not all content are freely licensed. As well, some uploaders on those web sites are not too careful with how they license so you need to be on the lookout for images or videos that have a free license applied but should not becasue the uploader does not have the right to apply such a license. You can use the Creative Commons Search Portal to search for freely licensed content as well.
