Big welcome to the article rescue squadron
Hi, FeydHuxtable, welcome to the Article Rescue Squadron! We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles that have been tagged for deletion. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, ergo fixable and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated! If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you. And once again - Welcome! Ikip (talk) 19:26, 20 April 2009 (UTC) | |||||

De Caro Paper and Shroud
Hi, I just stumbled across your discussion on the Shroud of Turin page in relation to the De Caro paper. The discussion seemed to go off the rails pretty quickly and no one seemed to really address the De Caro work. Rather than wade through the lengthy archives, I was wondering if you knew what the objection to that reference ended up being or the consensus on it was? Squatch347 (talk) 13:03, 6 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hey. Unfortuneatly, the concensus both before and after said discussion was not to include the De Caro work.
- To elaborate, from a mainstream science perspective, for many years the 1988 nature study offered the single most convincing bit of positive evidence suggesting the shroud is a fake. At least one of the skeptics partly accepted the fact more recent work has demonstrated the 1988 study is unreliable, but this didn't shift the concensus against De Caro. They didn't quite put it this way, but I think it's fair to say the good editors watching over the Shroud page believe that Carl Sagan's "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" position applies. While Heritage is well regarded in some circles, a paper in their probably doesnt count as extraordinary from a skeptic perspective. If De Caro's work gets favourably referenced in say a systematic review published in Nature , that cleary finds the balance of scientific evidence points to a supernatural origin, then they'd likely acccept adding it to the page. Just my opinion, but unless something like that happens, it may not be a good use of time to try get the De Caro reference added back. FeydHuxtable (talk) 21:04, 19 February 2026 (UTC)
