questionable edits by a past student

Hi @Fransplace: a couple of us are cleaning up some articles on birds. We found a large addition by someone who identifies themself as a student of yours from a year ago. Unfortunately the added material was sourced to inappropriate articles, for example sourcing a claim about eagles hunting other birds to an article on mammals. Some of the material added was clearly incorrect, for example a claim that the Yellow-breasted Antwarbler has a pure white breast. We suspect an LLM was used, because the pattern of very nice, readable text with false claims and references is typical for LLMs. We're dealing with this, but I just wanted to let you know that you will need to be more alert to student use of LLMs in future classes. Thank you. M kuhner (talk) 16:01, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
