Happy New Year

Question from MiekMe (21:34, 18 November 2025)

Hi Gnoeee. You've been assigned to me as Wikipedia mentor.

Strange question. I suggested having an experimental Wikipedia edit sprint at a math conference. However, I am not a very experienced Wikipedian myself. I assume/hope that it is OK to coordinate and document the sprint's activities from a user space page as here: User:MiekMe/FAOTSA2025. It would be most useful to use the same platform as a sandbox for novice Wikipedians.

Any advice or suggestions for this experiment will be very welcome, maybe on the experiment's talk page User talk:MiekMe/FAOTSA2025.

Question from CaseyCCK (10:03, 21 April 2026)

I would like to propose renaming this page from "Firdhaus Farmizi" to "Firdhaus".

The artist is professionally known and widely recognized as "Firdhaus", and his Chinese name "菲道尔" is also commonly used in official releases, media coverage, and promotional materials. His full name "Muhammad Firdhaus bin Farmizi" is not commonly used in public-facing contexts.

Per Wikipedia's naming conventions (WP:COMMONNAME), article titles should reflect the name most frequently used in reliable sources and by the general public. In this case, "Firdhaus" would better represent how the artist is commonly known.

I believe this change would improve clarity and align the article title with common usage. Thank you. --CaseyCCK (talk) 10:03, 21 April 2026 (UTC)

Hello @CaseyCCK. I feel that the current title "Firdhaus Farmizi" is appropriate as it reflects the artist's name.
Using just "Firdhaus" may be less precise and could lead to ambiguity. I also checked several of the existing references and they do use the full name, which suggests that the current title is still well supported by sources. I saw you also had started a dicussion on the talk page.- ❙❚❚❙❙ GnOeee ❚❙❚❙❙ 05:43, 24 April 2026 (UTC)
Thank you for your response.
I understand the concern regarding precision and possible ambiguity. However, I would like to further clarify that “Firdhaus” is the artist’s established professional and public-facing name across virtually all major music platforms, media coverage, concert promotions, and official branding materials.
While some older or formal references may still include his full legal name “Muhammad Firdhaus bin Farmizi” or “Firdhaus Farmizi”, the overwhelming majority of current reliable sources and public usage identify him simply as “Firdhaus”.
Under WP, Wikipedia article titles are generally based on the name most commonly used in reliable independent sources and by the general public, rather than the subject’s full legal name.
Examples of current common usage include:
• Spotify artist page — “Firdhaus”
• Apple Music — “Firdhaus”
• KKBOX — “Firdhaus”
• Official concert and promotional materials
• Media headlines across Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore
• Official social media branding
In practice, the artist is almost never publicly referred to as “Firdhaus Farmizi” in entertainment or music industry contexts today.
Therefore, I believe moving the page to “Firdhaus” would better reflect current common usage, improve recognizability, and align more closely with Wikipedia naming conventions.
Thank you for your consideration. ~2026-27868-39 (talk) 07:17, 8 May 2026 (UTC)

Question from Shiv248 (18:18, 26 April 2026)

Hi, I have a quick question you may be able to help with! I am looking at editing the Headland, Alabama wiki page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Headland,_Alabama , hopefully to add sources. This is my first time citing pages, would this be a reliable source or is it too close to being self published: https://hchg.org/town-of-headland-incorporated-in-1884/ ?? Thank you!!! --Shiv248 (talk) 18:18, 26 April 2026 (UTC)

@Shiv248. The source looks like a self-published website, so I'm not sure about it. It's better to use independent secondary sources if possible.- ❙❚❚❙❙ GnOeee ❚❙❚❙❙ 08:05, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

Question from PJP1939 (21:11, 29 April 2026)

Hello: I am an 87 year-old writer who would like to leave behind a reasonably reliable and robust Wikipedia page. I went to AI (Claude) to ask about the challenges to the quality of my current page, and after a long back-and-forth, Claude created a comprehensive set of edits for me to enter under the Talk/New Section tab of my Wikipedia page with proper coding. I want to make sure to do the right thing here, so I am reaching out for expert advice on how best to proceed. Thank you for any help you are able to offer. —Parker J. Question from WikiBunnii (05:38, 5 May 2026)

Looks like you've become my mentor! I just had a question. How do you copyedit sentences where it seems opinion based, but may be true? For example, "He was known for his poor and inconsistent playing style." I don't usually know if these kind of things are opinion or fact because I don't know much about them. How do you recommend dealing with them? Thanks! -WikiBunnii --WikiBunnii (talk) 05:38, 5 May 2026 (UTC)

Hello @WikiBunnii. Usually when a sentence sounds evaluative or judgmental, I try to check whether it's something objectively verifiable or just an opinion being stated as fact. Avoid strong evaluative words unless they are clearly supported by reliable sources. Neutral wording is generally the safest approach.- ❙❚❚❙❙ GnOeee ❚❙❚❙❙ 09:12, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
Ok, thank you! WikiBunnii (talk) 06:24, 19 May 2026 (UTC)
