- Mmmm I love this image by artist Paul Klee. I keep returning to it. I love it, well, because I love Klee's playful, vibrant work generally and also adore the writing by Walter Benjamin on this piece, which he owned himself. The writing, "Theses on the Philosophy of History", was published posthumously.
- "His face is turned toward the past. Where we perceive a chain of events, he sees one single catastrophe which keeps piling wreckage upon wreckage and hurls it in front of his feet. The angel would like to stay, awaken the dead, and make whole what has been smashed. But a storm is blowing from Paradise; it has got caught in his wings with such violence that the angel can no longer close them. The storm irresistibly propels him into the future to which his back his turned, while the pile of debris before him grows skyward. The storm is what we call progress." OpenRefine
"This course is an introduction to using OpenRefine to make bulk edits to Wikidata. It is designed for those who have some knowledge of Wikidata, and who have done at least some manual editing of Wikidata already. No prior knowledge of OpenRefine is required.
The course covers some basic OpenRefine tasks such as faceting, moving and renaming columns, reconciliation, creating a schema, and creating new columns from reconciled values. We show you how to make bulk edits to existing Wikidata items, as well as how to create new items. We also cover how to use OpenRefine to look for gaps on Wikidata.
This is a short course which we estimate would take around 4 hours to complete."

Notes and Insights from Teahouse conversation on drafting
---> moved the article in question to the draft space, since per Wikipedia:DRAFTIFY,
Drafts start directly at drafts:XYZ
Draft:Title as explained above. SomeoneDreaming
Publish means save work
What you can do instead is use the WP:Article wizard,
The other option is that you can create a page by searching for "Draft:Subject" (replacing Subject with what you're writing about), which will tell you the page doesn't exist, and from that you can create a new draft. So for example I'm interested in writing an article about artists called the Numina Sisters, so I would put "Draft:Numina Sisters" in the search bar and then select the red link Draft:Numina Sisters. If you choose this second option, you'll need to put at the very top of your draft so that you get the magic submission button to show up. Once your draft is ready for review, you simply press that button and your draft will go into the review pool. Meadowlark (talk) 10:15, 3 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Participaction! 🥳🙏🏾🎉🎂Wikipedia turns 25
Give Wikipedia a Gift for their 25th Birthday!
On 15 January Wikipedia turned 25 - a remarkable milestone for a free online encyclopedia written and maintained by its community of volunteers, that has helped billions of people learn something new, settle a debate, or tumble down a late-night rabbit hole of curiosity.
From its humble beginnings 25 years ago, it's now available in over 300 languages, it’s the largest and most-read reference work in history, it powers AI and continues to keep knowledge free and accessible to all.
To mark the occasion, we’re inviting you to give Wikipedia a birthday present — a gift that will help Wikipedia to continue to grow into a reliable resource of knowledge which is accessible and free to all of humanity. Pledge your birthday gift to Wikipedia Tell us what you would like to give Wikipedia for its special milestone, by completing this Google Form.
Here are some suggestions from us;
Content Gaps on Wikipedia
- Writing a biography / new article or improving an existing article (let us know if you would like ideas on content gaps on Wikipedia)
- Getting an article(s) to Good Article status or on the main page featured on Did You Know
- De-orphaning articles - Incoming wikilinks are central to boosting visibility of subjects in the knowledge network. For example Women’s biographies have a higher rate of being orphaned which makes them less visible.
- Adding images to Wikipedia articles also improves the discoverability of an article. Here is a list of pages where photos are needed. If you want to focus on a specific category you can use these instructions to run a PetScan.
- Would you like to see more information on a particular subject which is currently underrepresented on Wikipedia? Build a worklist and find reliable sources that other editors / WMUK trainers can use at future events.
Welcoming and Supporting New Editors
- Join the Teahouse and support new Wikipedia editors
- Join the Birthday Committee and wish Wikipedia editors a happy birthday.
- If you have led a Wikipedia training session recently, say hello to the people who attended and check in with them to see if they need any support.
- Take some time once a week / month to thank someone and recognise their contribution on their user page or use this simple feature on the history page of an article.
- Maybe you’ve been impressed by someone’s contribution or used someone’s image in an article, send them a note to let them know their efforts are appreciated.
- Support Minoritised Languages
Translating Articles
- English to other language of your choice
- Articles needing translation from a language of your choice to English
- Use the content translation tool as a starting point for your translation(s)
- Organise an edit-a-thon
- If you have been working with a group of editors, you could organise a special birthday edit-a-thon!
- Organise an Wikipedia event for a group / community that you would like to work with. Or maybe you would like to organise a themed edit-a-thon to celebrate Wikipedia’s birthday?
- If you’re not an editor yet, why not become an editor? You can create a new account here. And here is a tutorial on the basics of Wikipedia editing - The Wikipedia Adventure.
- Apply to run a Community sandbox session - email sara.thomas@wikimedia.org.uk if you have an idea.
- Enrich Wikipedia articles with images and make them more discoverable.
- Add images of Women, people of colour, LGBTQ people and subjects to relevant articles.
- Here is a list of articles needing images.
- Use previous Wiki Loves Earth and Wiki Loves Monuments images to add to articles.
- Talk to people about why you edit Wikipedia and what it brings to your life!
- Organise a talk with a group who might be interested in finding out more about editing on Wikipedia or may be open to sharing their knowledge on Wikipedia.
- Apply to share your Wikimedia knowledge and experience at Wikimania 2026 in Paris from 21-25 July. The theme for this year’s Wikimania is Freedom, Equity, Reliability (Liberté, Équité, Fi abilité) https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2026:Program
- Create a shareable resource to highlight a particular area / subject / country / culture using Wikipedia as a guide.
- This could be a geographical map taking people through Wikipedia pages in a particular location
- Or it could be related to a subject for example 19th Century Art, or Black Female Singers in the UK
- This list is by no means exhaustive! Let us know if you have any other ideas!
* Wikimedia UK Will Support You to Give Your Gift

Schönen Februar @Gerda Arendt! On February 1st was the Snow Moon, spring is coming. Hard to believe as we are still in deep wintery snows and making lots of delicious maple taffy.

- OOoooOoOOoOoo I see that the building features a mobile by Jean Tinguley! I adore this artist. I&I22 (talk) 12:46, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
- There is a Tinguely Museum! Of course there is, my goodness... I did not know about this...wow....ok I am writing to myself Gerda! very exciting discovery, who knew that a love of music, soccer, Jean Tinguely and art in general could all come together?

- Truly he is one of my favourite artists, but never looked for his museum. There was an amazing building that he created somewhere with Niki de Saint Phalle, whose work I adore also. I&I22 (talk) 13:09, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for all the references, - I was a bit too busy, to help bringing four people to yesterday's main page, two women and two men, three opera singers (one pictured) and an actor, - a record for me, I believe ;) - today's story still related. - I studied where Niki's works have been on public display for five decades. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:26, 25 February 2026 (UTC)
- Yahooooooo @Gerda Arendt! No worries at all, as I appreciate that you are very busy. Never any pressure to respond.
- SO AMAZING that you studied there!!!

- I often incorporate references to him into my artworks.
- Very cool the Sprengel museum is!!! Gorgeous and perhpas inspired Frank Gehry? The ARt Gallery of Ontario's renovation looks a bit informed by the Sprengel museum's architecture. I&I22 (talk) 12:46, 25 February 2026 (UTC)
- By the way, these additional notes are for me Gerda! Am so curious about all, I have foudn the connection between architect Gehry and the Sprengel museum in an article on Kurt Schwitters.

"I am thrilled to announce the launch of my book, The Internet Ecosystem — a comprehensive exploration of the history, architecture, governance, and future of the Internet. This book distills decades of technological evolution — from ARPANET and packet switching, to AI, Web3, quantum networks, and beyond — into a clear, engaging narrative accessible to both technical and non-technical readers
What the Book Covers The Past: How Cold War research, ARPANET, and packet switching gave birth to the Internet we know today. The Present: The intricate roles of ISPs, backbone providers, cloud infrastructure, AI, cybersecurity, and global governance shaping our daily online experiences. With 49 detailed chapters, the book provides a definitive yet approachable reference for students, professionals, policymakers, and curious readers alike.

Aribert Reimann's 90th birthday, with a hook mentioning his 80ths, the opera played by Oper Frankfurt after he died, see video, and I was there. - Ruta de los Volcanes is among the latest places. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:23, 4 March 2026 (UTC)
- Danke @Gerda Arendt! That is so cool, that you were at the Melusine opera for Aribert Reimann's 80th birthday! So fun and quite amazing that you are linked to all these amazing musical moments. I love the etching that you chose today, March 9th "Apelisches Haus" in Leipzig Engraving, 1720! I&I22 (talk) 15:05, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you. I was at the other Melusine, hope that was clear. I once was at his Medea, and there he was also, surprise, listening to a normal performance in the city where he lived. I recognised him by the lead image. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:01, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
- Yes I understood that you attended the later opera @Gerda Arendt. Just replied too quickly and awkwardly, so my response was less clear. Thank you and look forward to tomorrow's story. I&I22 (talk) 00:37, 10 March 2026 (UTC)

- @Gerda Arendt helloooo! Oooo so lovely! Thank you for letting me know. I visited Aix-en-Provence once and had an unbelievably mystical experience there. Beautiful! I will look at Written on Skin, what a treat to learn about it as know nothing at all. At the moment, I work on a magic realism story for young readers and am incorporating references to both Wikipedia in honour of its many years and also Mozart’s the Magic Flute opera which is filled with references to the Free Masons’s symbols which are actually I believe from Druid cultural symbols. Soooo fascinating and delightful and am intrigued to know how the young readers will react to these interwinings of cultural histories. So fun 🤩! Thank youuu for letting me know. - Yes. Yes. Yes! - Of the four topics I helped to bring to the main page, I'm most proud of a woman's work, so made it my story. As it happens, last year's story OTD was about the woman. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:25, 16 March 2026 (UTC)
