Although I'm not related to Yea, Victoria ... I was going through that article and I must say, superb work you've done! I just wish more people would put at least half of effort as yours. Keep it up. User:Zapacit 00:21, 5 September 2016 (UTC)
New Challenge for Oceania and Australia
Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! Cheers.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:12, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

The World Destubathon
Hello. You're invited to participate in The World Destubathon. We're aiming to destub a lot of articles and also improve longer stale articles. It started today on Monday June 16 and will run until Sunday July 13. There is over $3300 going into it, with $500 the top prize. If you are interested in winning something to save you money in buying books for future content, or just see it as a good editathon opportunity to see a lot of articles improved for subjects which interest you, sign up on the page in the participants section if interested. Even if you can only manage a few articles they would be very much appreciated and help make the content produced as diverse and broad as possible! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:06, 16 June 2025 (UTC)

First Nations Reference in Infobox
Hello,
I think you were the main one handling the code for this? How did you go with that? It seemed like we had community consensus to put it through (WOW!). Poketama (talk) 23:21, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hi @Poketama, thanks for the contact.
- Although it may have slowed, discussion seems to be continuing, so we can't yet assume a conclusion to the RfC. Neither you nor I, as participants in the discussion, can close it with a decision. That awaits an impartial voice.
- Although I know my way around the programming of templates and modules, with the code of {{Infobox Australian place}} protected and me not having the privileges required to edit it, all I can do is make the changes in the sandbox, then ask that they be implemented in the live code.
- I know you suggested actual template code for the change very early in your proposals for this change (here), but there is better code for multiple aliases, namely
{{If empty|{{{first_nations_name|}}}|{{{indigenous_name|}}}|{{{native_name|}}}}}
- I know you suggested actual template code for the change very early in your proposals for this change (here), but there is better code for multiple aliases, namely
- As I was about to add to the first discussion when it got moved to the RfC, adding aliases for
|native_name=means we should presumably add them for|native_name_lang=too. Unfortunately this parameter (in {{Infobox settlement}}) only puts a hidden label on the name text as being in that language, it does not induce the language name to be shown, so we are going to have to make the documentation suggest eg:|first_nations_name = Tarndanya ([[Kaurna language|Kaurna]]), ie: adding the language name 'manually'. I will add this point to the RfC discussion.
- Innesw (talk) 10:06, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
- Oh hey thanks for your response but I was referring to this discussion:
- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Australian_Wikipedians%27_notice_board/Archive_64#Traditional_Owners_on_Template:Infobox_Australian_place Poketama (talk) 21:50, 30 January 2026 (UTC)
- Ahh, sorry, the discussion about adding the name of the traditional owners themselves. Yes it does seem to have consensus support, but I am a little concerned that the traditional owners name for the place (still under discussion) and the name of those owners should use similar parameter names: first_nations..., first_peoples..., indigenous..., traditional... - I'm not really sure what the best solution is yet.
