- Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
- Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
- In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
- Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
- Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like
<ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing). - In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
- If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}
Welcome!
Hi Lafi90! I noticed your contributions and wanted to welcome you to the Wikipedia community. I hope you like it here and decide to stay.
The rule that affects you most as a new or IP editor is the prohibition on making any edit related to the Arab–Israel conflict, which includes discussing articles on talk pages, unless you are logged into an account that is at least 30 days old and has made at least 500 edits.
This prohibition is broadly construed, so it includes edits such as adding the reaction of a public figure concerning the conflict to their article or noting the position of a company or organization as it relates to the conflict.
The exception to this rule is that you may request a specific change to an article on the talk page of that article or at this page. Please ensure that your requested edit complies with our neutral point of view and reliable sourcing policies, and if the edit is about a living person our policies on biographies of living people as well.
Any edits you make contrary to these rules are likely to be reverted, and repeated violations can lead to you being blocked from editing.As you get started, you may find this short tutorial helpful:

Please help me with...
a few questions.
1. Is there a handy way to know what I'm qualified to partake in?
2. With regards to my usage of Wikipedia; the 30 days/500 edits, is that wikipedia exclusive, like en.wiki separate from is.wiki?
3. Do those expire?
Thanks! Lafi90 (talk) 03:32, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- With a few exceptions (protected pages) any editor can edit anything. We are not concerned with your qualifications. Even experts cannot make edits based solely on their own authority. All edits need to be based on a published source. Each separate language project applies user rights separately, so extended confirmed rights are granted on English Wikipedia after 30 days and 500 edits, but that would not affect rights on other projects. No, user rights do not expire. The admins might remove a user right under certain circumstances, but that's quite rare. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 03:42, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- I should have read more of your page to get more context. There is a list of contentious topics here: WP:Contentious topics#List of contentious topics. Most of them are somewhat obvious and each one has some history you can choose to investigate if you don't see why editing is restricted. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 03:58, 16 June 2025 (UTC)

IMDB
Hey there,
In response to your edit on Greenland 2, here's Wikipedia's guidelines on IMDB.

- Hiya!
- Okay, but the information I added regarding the cast matches up both on the film's imdb page, as well as the end credits of the film.
- So what's the right course of action here? Lafi90 (talk) 08:24, 31 January 2026 (UTC)
- I really don't know. I suppose that we could ask another editor for help. I'm just trying to find a resolution to this. Apologies if I disturbed you. Alien456 (talk) 08:26, 31 January 2026 (UTC)
- Oh I'm rather amused by this than disturbed. Every clash is an opportunity to learn :)
- I'm looking into it now and I can see per reliable sources/perennial sources on wikipedia that imdb isn't exactly what one would call 'liked' by editors, but despite that, generally accepted as an 'external link'.
- I'm gonna look around and see if I can find anything acceptable to reference here. Lafi90 (talk) 08:27, 31 January 2026 (UTC)
- Okay, take your time. Alien456 (talk) 08:30, 31 January 2026 (UTC)
- I looked into the policy, WP: Citing imdb again, and while not referred to as appropriate, what I did isn't referred to as inappropriate use, but 'disputed' use.
- I'm honestly not sure what to make of that.
- I also have a digital copy of the film in front of me and could go through it's end credits again. Lafi90 (talk) 08:42, 31 January 2026 (UTC)
- That's a good start. Also, can you look on any other websites aside from IMDB that have the movie's cast billing? Alien456 (talk) 08:50, 31 January 2026 (UTC)
- TVGuide, TheMoviedb, Metacritic.
- There are a couple more I found, but some only list the actors but not their roles, some are missing actors/roles altogether.
- Edit; got 'warned' when trying to link TheMoviedb as it's on a blacklist within wikipedia. Lafi90 (talk) 09:07, 31 January 2026 (UTC)
- Gotcha. Just make sure that the main actors (Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, and Roman Griffin Davis) are credited first, then credit the rest in order. Alien456 (talk) 09:17, 31 January 2026 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics
You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practices;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Additionally, you must be logged in, have 500 edits, and have an account age of 30 days, and you are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on any page within this topic.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
