The tenture section that I edited is extremely biased, I mainly tried to introduce some neutrality and I expanded it with relevant information. Just reverting without any explanation is not done, no? As it stands right now, this tenure section makes it seem like this is an extremely disreputable Senator who's constantly been mired in one scandal after the other. Over half of the section about his 20 year tenure is about his stock trades and endorsement of Platner (how many Democrats endorsed and then removed their endorsement). You removed a lot of well-sourced material. You introduced content sourced to his own press releases, which are not reliable. Our job isn't to make it seem like someone is reputable or disreputable; it's to reflect what reliable sources have said about a subject. Fair point on the press releases—I agree, happy to swap those citations out. My main concern with the full revert is balance. Right now, over half of his 20-year Senate tenure section is dedicated to stock trade disclosures, an endorsement reversal, and an unadjudicated watchdog complaint. Focusing so heavily on those episodes while stripping out his actual legislative record makes the section feel completely one-sided. Instead of scrapping the whole overview, how about we keep the legislative history in there using independent news sources, while keeping concise, neutral coverage of the controversies? If you can find independent sources for new content, that's great and I'd have no objection to expanding the article. But I wouldn't remove well-sourced content. In 2022, reporting indicated Whitehouse had violated the federal STOCK Act by failing to disclose personal stock purchases in Target Corporation and Tesla, Inc. within the required 45-day deadline, an oversight attributed to staffing transitions.^[22][23] A subsequent The New York Times report identified trades in companies subject to committee oversight.^[24]

In February 2025, the conservative watchdog group Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust filed an ethics complaint alleging potential conflicts of interest regarding $7 million in federal environmental funding awarded to the Ocean Conservancy, where Whitehouse's wife served as a paid consultant. I can see you've triggered Special:AbuseFilter/1325 a couple times, and edits going back to at least early 2025 have utm_source=chatgpt in urls. The relevant guideline is WP:NOLLM. @Kowal2701: Huh, that's strange. I have never used LLMs to write content. I rarely use them at all for anything, although when I do I use Claude, so I don't know why I would get "chatgpt" in my URLs. Have never been to that website. Is is possible these edits were me restoring previous edits of another editor who used those URLs? I'm quite curious about this because I've noticed more and more content here than seems highly likely to have been created by AI and it irks me to no end. I looked more closely at the source behind the paragraph you removed, Colin Todhunter's Food, Dependency and Dispossession, particularly Chapter I, “Toxic Agriculture: From the Gates Foundation to the Green Revolution.”

I agree with your point that the claims should not be presented as Wikipedia's own conclusions, and I think explicit attribution to Todhunter would address that concern.

I also wanted to clarify that Todhunter's discussion is not simply an unsupported assertion by the author. In the relevant section, he discusses the high-input, chemical-intensive Green Revolution model and its relationship to public health, monocropping, crop diversity and nutrition. He then specifically identifies and quotes a 2010 paper, “Zinc deficiencies in Agricultural Systems,” published in the International Journal of Environmental and Rural Development. The paper's authors state that Green Revolution cropping systems resulted in reduced food-crop diversity and decreased availability of micronutrients, and discuss micronutrient deficiency as a human-nutrition issue.

Todhunter also cites other material in the chapter concerning the health and environmental consequences associated with chemical-intensive agriculture.

Therefore, I think there are two distinct levels of attribution here: the interpretation of the Gates Foundation/AGRA is Todhunter's, while some of the underlying claims about crop diversity and micronutrient availability are explicitly attributed by Todhunter to the research he cites. ~2026-49683-83 (talk) 06:40, 15 September 2026 (UTC)
