TemplateProtector and editnotices

User:MusikBot II/TemplateProtector protects editnotice subpages, which already require template-editor or admin flags to edit. This causes pages Template:Editnotices/Group/U.S. Congress (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) and Template:Editnotices/Group/U.S. Congress/districts (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) to show up in Category:Wikipedia pages with incorrect protection templates. —andrybak (talk) 14:09, 10 January 2026 (UTC)

Done Thanks for letting me know, and also for making sure this didn't get archived while I was away! I have added Template:Editnotices/* as an exclusion in the configuration, and unprotected the two I saw listed at Category:Wikipedia pages with incorrect protection templates. I'm a little surprised no other sysops saw your request and actioned it. The bot was designed it to be configurable precisely so that no one would need to go through me to make such changes, but it's all good :) Best, MusikAnimal talk 18:45, 2 March 2026 (UTC)

(Former) bot-issue

Hi MusikAnimal.

Do you know why this happened? It seems to have fixed itself after the request was withdrawn. 45dogs (they/them) (talk page) (contributions) 02:38, 10 March 2026 (UTC)

Well, I hit my 10-minute limit trying to debug, so no :-P If it happens again, let me know, otherwise I'll just brush this off as likely a networking or Toolforge hiccup. I do see one error around the same time but I don't think it's related. MusikAnimal talk 08:05, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
There is this which is currently affecting PERM. Both requests do have a commonality of not having any articles created, though I don't know if that is related to the issue. 45dogs (they/them) (talk page) (contributions) 08:16, 10 March 2026 (UTC)

  • Special report: What actually happened during the Wikimedia security incident?
A horrifying exploit took place, which could have had catastrophic and far-reaching consequences if used maliciously; instead, it seems to have happened by accident and was used for childish vandalism. How did this happen, and what did the script actually do?
