MP portraits

Hallo and welcome to Wikipedia. Please don't change portraits of MPs. By using their official portrait we avoid any disputes between editors wanting to use more or less flattering images and we treat all MPs fairly and save editors' time by avoiding controversy. I've undone your change to Tim Farron, who is on my watchlist, but I see from your contributions list that you've done this to other MPs. Please revert these or, at least, don't change any more. Thanks, PamD 06:55, 2 January 2026 (UTC)

The more I look at "official portraits" the worse it gets - I'm now confused as to what our practice is or should be, and have asked for advice. See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Politics of the United Kingdom#MP photos PamD 10:32, 2 January 2026 (UTC)
My compromise is that it cases like Esther mcvey where the most recent portrait is 9 years old a "unprofessional" high quality neutral photo is better, I'll concede that the 2019-20 portraits are good enough for now and give a pretty accurate idea of what MPs look like now, I understand the commitment to being neutral as possible but in the case of 2017 portraits it's steeping into the area of they look different now (I also hate the 2017 portraits) Nkbok (talk) 10:45, 2 January 2026 (UTC)

Alex Burghart

also can someone please find a new photo for him he looks so much different now 9 years later + glasses Nkbok (talk) 10:46, 2 January 2026 (UTC)

Are you an MP, or connected to one personally or professionally?

Nkbok, WP:Neutral point of view is a foundational principle of Wikipedia and one of Wikipedia's Five Pillars. Wikipedia has special instructions for editors who may have a conflict of interest with some article topics, in order to ensure the neutrality of the encyclopedia. That is why I must ask you: without revealing your identity, can you tell me whether you are/were an MP, or connected to one personally or professionally? Thank you, Mathglot (talk) 01:05, 4 February 2026 (UTC)

Nope never ~2026-76031-4 (talk) 01:50, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
btw on nick Buckley he briefly rejoined reform hense (2021) (2025) Nkbok (talk) 01:53, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
Great, thank you for your response; you're good to go with respect to COI!
Regarding Buckley: I believe you, and it would by useful to have that in the article. Feel free to add it back, but this time along with a citation to a reliable source. By the way, I do not understand the double-date notation:

(2021) (2025)

and I don't think most others are going to understand it either. I suggest you find a clearer way of expressing whatever it is you mean by that. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 06:45, 4 February 2026 (UTC)

Sourcing biographies

In Wikipedia articles, and most especially in biographies of living persons, WP:Verifiability and the use of in-line citations to reliable sources is paramount. I have undone three of your recent edits. I don't dispute their accuracy (I wouldn't know one way or the other) but the changes must be sourced with proper citations. See Help:Referencing for beginners, and WP:BLPSOURCES. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 01:27, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
