Use of Coalition Liberal on Lloyd George ministry

A disagreement has arisen between myself and User:DuncanHill as to whether to describe Liberals in government as "Coalition Liberal" in order to differentiate them from the "Asquith" Liberals in Opposition or whether they should be just be described as "Liberals".

In order to prevent an edit war, can we discuss this here and reach a consensus opinion. Sam11333 (talk) 18:57, 19 April 2026 (UTC)

The discussion should take place at Talk:Lloyd George ministry. My objection is not so much to the term, but the use of the link Coalition Liberal, which goes to Coalition Coupon, so shouldn't be used pre-Coupon Election. DuncanHill (talk) 19:40, 19 April 2026 (UTC)

Bolding in lede of 2026 Tower Hamlets mayoral election

Thought I would alert people here to the fact that an editor has repeatedly been removing the bold text from the lede of 2026 Tower Hamlets mayoral election article (and no other similar local election articles), thereby giving the article's lede a different format to every other UK local election article. Not something I'm overly interested in fighting (my main gripe is the inconsistency with every other local election article) but thought I would alert people here to it in case anyone else wants to weigh in. Chessrat (talk, contributions) 11:35, 7 May 2026 (UTC)

The problem isn't consistency, it is that many articles do not conform to a guideline. With that said, I'd rather discuss this on the article's talk page than here though. Qwerty123M (talk) 23:20, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
  • Well Qwerry123M has since applied it to the devolved elections, so makes sense to discuss it here as it seems to apply more than Tower Hamlets. The MOS is MOS:AVOIDBOLD, which prefers no bold for "distorted" wording that is not "easily and naturally" worded. Open to an approach where no election in the United Kingdom (or beyond) has bolding. But if it cannot be all not-bold, with some being kept then, a may be a line drawn is to use it at least for "[year] [body] election" titled articles as they can be justified as following the proper noun and being the simplest and easiest wording, compared to [year] [place] [type of election], a more descriptive title? DankJae 12:28, 8 May 2026 (UTC)
The reason I keep on changing lead text is because I don't think there is a WP:COMMONNAME that the article could use as its title in the body text and many articles have this problem of not complying with WP:SBE. I'm happy to be corrected but as far as I know, for most elections there isn't a popularised common name. I don't think there is anything wrong with the titles currently. Qwerty123M (talk) 12:41, 8 May 2026 (UTC)
Understand common name, although "[year] [body] election" is probably as close to the common name one could get. Of course elections with more longer descriptive titles obviously aren't the common name, therefore less likely to have the bolding. Don't oppose to de-bolding, and happy to apply it, but I guess wait to see if it remains consistent or any other opposition. DankJae 12:51, 8 May 2026 (UTC)
There is no need for boldface in the lead sentence (WP:AVOIDBOLD). The sentence looks much more natural when the article title is not forced into it. Surtsicna (talk) 18:31, 8 May 2026 (UTC)

Including council composition both in the infobox and as a subheader

One thing I noticed when working on updating various councils' pages after the elections last year, is that all of them include the party composition twice on the page, once in the infobox, and again as a subheader underneath (usually) the timeline of council control. If you pick a region at random you'll see what I mean, I think every page does this.

This strikes me as very redundant, since often the council articles are so short that you can see both tables on the screen as once. They also often get out of sync when council seats swap outside of elections, people will update the infobox and then forget to update the subheader's info as well, so you often get a page that has conflicting info. Is it worth just removing all the pages' composition subheadings to prevent this? I really don't think they add anything currently. RandomEditsForWhenIRemember (talk) 08:02, 8 May 2026 (UTC)

Template for deletion discussion

There is an ongoing template for deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2026 May 8#Template:WikiProject Politics of the United Kingdom, I have nominated the template for deletion because the template is redundant considering that Template:WikiProject United Kingdom has a politics parameter that links to the same WikiProject. Starmer leadership crisis

Has no article been created on this yet? I couldn't see anything, so I've made 2026 Keir Starmer leadership crisis. This can obviously turn into 2026 Labour Party leadership election (UK) as and when appropriate. Bondegezou (talk) 06:59, 13 May 2026 (UTC)

Importance of Health Secretary James Murry

Now that he's the Health Secretary, should the importance of James Murray (London politician) be upgraded? Also, there is currently a discussion going on in the talk page of his article about renaming it, in order to disambiguate from James Murray (Durham politician).
