Welcome!
Hello, Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I noticed that one of the first articles you created or edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, which will be reviewed by other editors. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)
In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

If you need help, visit the Teahouse, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! - Hi! I have filed the request to unblock and change the account to comply with the rules regarding corporate accounts (Ironically, I named the account like that because I wanted to very clearly display I am affiliated with the institute, as a form of disclosure). I want to make it clear, I was just having a bit of a slow day and wanted to create an infobox and update the list of groups to reflect the actual status at the institute, this is not something I am doing "as part of my job" per se. I understand the restrictions and the quick reaction, but I would still like to somehow make the updates if possible. If an edit suggestion is preferred, I can send the updated list of groups through the edit wizard. Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems (talk) 10:55, 30 January 2026 (UTC)
January 2026

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must follow all these steps:
- Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
- Provide a new username.
To do this, insert the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. If you are having trouble, you may want to try using the unblock wizard.
Before requesting a new username, check if it is still available. If the search says "There is no global account for [username]", the username is free to use.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text{{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the edit. Kj cheetham (talk) 10:27, 30 January 2026 (UTC)

I am happy to use the Edit Request Wizard if needed. I perhaps should have familiarised myself with the conflict of interest policy before being so gung-ho about the edits, but I just thought this was probably the easiest way around it. I did see that publishing my edits requires an approval process, which I assumed was the safeguard against egregious self promotion.
I am happy to deal with the page updates however the experience Wikipedia editors may like. My main aim was to expand a little on research areas, create an infobox for the institute, and update the group list. Current groups at the institute can be found here: https://www.pks.mpg.de/research/divisions-and-groups
You will immediately notice that most of the names do not match the status of the page. Also, given there seems to be little external interest on editing or keeping the page up to date, I would be happy to do it and send the overall final page for approval. (Non-administrator comment) Please review the mandatory paid editing disclosure policy for the recommended methods to visibly disclose your connection to the subject of your writing. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 12:53, 30 January 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for the information. Given that I am not being paid (directly or indirectly) for the edits, and I simply wanted to update old information about my place of work, I believe this actually falls within the COI guidelines, if I am not mistaken. I will thus act accordingly and submit the updated group list by using the COI edit template, so it can be reviewed for its possible inclusion and the currently incorrect information can be substituted. I will also add all the necessary disclosures regarding my affiliation to the institute by using the provided templates. Thank you very much! - You say you are "head of the Visitors Program at MPI-PKS" - I assume that is an abbreviation for Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems - it sounds to me that you are a paid editor, because your salary is enough to trigger the paid requirement. PhilKnight (talk) 23:33, 30 January 2026 (UTC)
- In that case, I have misunderstood the guidelines. I am employed by the institute, but it is not part of my tasks to edit Wikipedia, hence my confusion. If my affiliation with the institute is enough to trigger the paid editor clause, then that would be the case.
- In light of that, I will carefully review all the appropriate policies and will set up the account on a way that is consistent with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest#Paid_editors Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems (talk) 09:26, 31 January 2026 (UTC)

Renamer note: Are you aware of (and comfortable with) the potential implications associated with using a real name? — rsjaffe 🗣️ 04:14, 31 January 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for your concern. Again, I am simply trying to be transparent regarding my insider role. Upon reviewing the disclosure policies, it seems to me that a generic username like "PPGP26" and a profile description that discloses my affiliation is better suited, if this is still possible. Thank you very much. Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems (talk) 09:21, 31 January 2026 (UTC)
Hi there! You say you have a personal account, as well as this account, which you planned to use for edits related to MPI. Can you tell me the name of your personal account? Additionally, do you have any other accounts? Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 05:05, 1 February 2026 (UTC)
- I have a personal account under the name Pabperemart, which I use to browse. I created it to get better use of the Android app, and have considered editing since then, but never got around to do so. I do not have any other accounts.
- The reason to separate the accounts was double: I wanted the edits to the article to be very clearly disclosed (again, very naively, as I now know the proper disclosure methods), which would not be the case from my account, and I did not want colleagues who checked the edit history of the page to be able to trace my personal account to me, as I may use it to contribute to articles about my personal interests and hobbies, and did not necessarily wanted that to be identifiable. This concern still exists if I use a different user account name that has the clearly displayed disclosure as described in the guidelines. - Hello again! I would be happy to unblock you. Before I do so, however, please read Wikipedia's policy on multiple accounts, which we often refer to as "sockpuppetry". There are legitimate reasons for having multiple accounts (as stated here), and I believe the reason you've described above is legitimate. To keep yourself from getting in trouble, it's best to provide notification linking the accounts. Since this would be a privacy concern for this account, you could provide the link on your Pabperemart account. If you do not want to make this connection for privacy reasons, you can also consider informing the Arbitration Committee. All said, the two accounts should not be misused. Please review the sockpuppet policy linked above, then briefly explain what you would do to ensure you don't violate this policy. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 14:45, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for your consideration. I have read through the Sockpuppetry article and understand the problem it poses. The approach with linking through my Pabperemart account (which, to this purposes, is my "main account") sounds great, since I am not really concerned about people finding this account through that one, only the other way round. I will thus set up the disclosure information and link to the alternative account there, and a disclosure for paid edits here.
- Regarding misuse, I believe the that the biggest issue is regarding "Contributing to the same page or discussion with multiple accounts", which, even though it is allowed if the accounts are linked, in practical terms means it is probably best to avoid crossover between the accounts: This one will only be used for the "paid" edits, so, anything to do with my place of employment, and the other for everything else, with no overlap between the two. Edits regarding my place of employment will always first be made as suggestions to be approved, and will focus on updating old information that is no longer accurate.
- A big takeaway here is also to read carefully the different policies regarding editing before jumping in, and that applies both for edits on this and my other account. The documentation is extensive and it might take me sometime to make sure I got everything covered, but it is the first step before being able to make constructive edits. In any case, I have to start by arranging for the proper disclosure of my affiliation in this account (using the template and direction on the guide regarding paid editors), and the indication of the link between this account and the PabPereMart one in the profile page of that one (using the Alternative account notification section of the multiple accounts article).
