Has it been twenty years already? It's been great watching Wikipedia grow both in size and usage. I began anonymously with the belief that an encyclopedia anybody could edit would quickly become a useless mess. When I realized my mistake, I created an account and have been active ever since. Thank you! It's Wikipedia's editors who attracted me to this project. I began my editing "career" by demonstrating to my information systems class how unreliable an open encyclopedia was by vandalizing an article. When I went to show them this problem - it was gone. This intrigued me. I thought it was a glitch. I tried again. It wasn't. So I switched hats, created an account, and have been defending the five pillars ever since. It's been quite an adventure. For example, if someone would review Epstein's article and talk page edit histories, they'll find academics lauding his generosity and belittling his accusers. You'll also find very early warnings from Jared Fogle's university dorm-mates that he was a bonafide creep long before the world knew. Sadly, this information came from primary sources, and there was nothing we could do with the article. Sure, I've run into some rather unpleasant editors, but time and patience tend to resolve those problems. The were certainly less irritating than today's rage baiting algorithms. In fact, the next time I find myself upset with the day's news feed, I might just spend some time reviewing my photos for potentially useful contributions... • The arbitration case SchroCat has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case closed on 15 April.
• Per a recent motion, appeals of blocks from the conflict-of-interest VRT queue are, by default, appealed on-wiki through the normal unblock process. However, they may be heard by the Committee if COIVRTers disagree on the interpretation of the evidence or believe ArbCom would be better suited to hear the appeal. Administrators are also advised that loosening or lifting such blocks without the consent of someone with access to the queue or ArbCom can be grounds for desysopping.
• Per a recent motion, restrictions issued directly by the Committee may now be enforced with blocks which work exactly like contentious topic blocks.
