New Canadian history article
Hi Schwede66, recently posted a new Canadian history article. Thought you might find it interesting:
Based on your past encouragements, I have nominated it at DYK. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 14:41, 19 April 2026 (UTC)
- Very interesting indeed! Great work. What a painful process. Right at the end, you are comparing costs back then with an inflation-adjusted amount – that doesn’t read well. Otherwise, it’s fabulous, Mr Serjeant Buzfuz. Have I previously suggested you give Capital of New Zealand a read? Similar story, but less painful. Schwede66 19:17, 19 April 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks! I’ve started a See also section and added the NZ article. Does seem to have been less controversial; probably because no linguistic / religious regional rivalries involved! Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 15:10, 21 April 2026 (UTC)
- Looks like it will be on the front page soon; currently in Prep area 5.
- By the way, I don't understand your comment about inflation. The two estimates of the cost that I give at the end were both based on the contemporary expenditures, so I'm not sure what inflation you're referring to? The conversion rate into pounds sterling that I mention was set by a contemporary statute, to ensure a uniform conversion between the Province of Canada dollar and the pound.
- If there is a problem, I'd like to fix it before it goes up. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 13:59, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
- I see. I misunderstood what was going on. Having looked at the Canadian pound article, I can now understand why there was a mix of currencies and that there were all contemporary figures. Maybe have a footnote explaining why there are two currencies. Schwede66 20:02, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
- Done! Added efn at first mention of specific currency amounts in the section “Drawbacks of itinerant parliament”. Thanks for the suggestion. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 02:24, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
- Looks good!Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 12:44, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
- And it's up! Thanks for all your help. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 13:10, 4 May 2026 (UTC)
- Good to see. And it’s a great hook, too. It’ll get a high number of views. Schwede66 14:41, 4 May 2026 (UTC)
- Anything with Queen Victoria, right? 🫅 Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 15:50, 4 May 2026 (UTC)

Question about new MPs WikiProject
Hiya. I asked this question on the NZ MPs WikiProject talk page but did not receive a response. As it is on my mind again I was wondering if you might be able to help here.
I've created a subproject on the Australian politics WikiProject for drafting pages for new MPs, at Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian politics/New MPs, much like the NZ project has. During the state election, as I was moving these pages into mainspace, I noticed one had already been created, and spoke about this with the user who had created it. They said that they were surprised the article was in this space, and not the normal draftspace, as otherwise they would have seen there was a draft. I was wondering if there was any motivation behind the NZ MPs WikiProject drafting its biographies on subpages of the project rather than in draft space, and if it would be a good idea to ask for editnotices to ensure that new users looking to make a page are directed to the subproject draft page? LivelyRatification (talk) 06:24, 20 April 2026 (UTC)
- I've replied at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject New Zealand/politics/New MPs. Schwede66 20:05, 20 April 2026 (UTC)

Plus, new bans for AI-generated content in place, a new drop in active admins, pranks on pranks, May admin election, and other news from the Wikimedia world.

WP:WITHDRAW
At ITN, the Japan earthquake nom was supposedly withdrawn by the nominator, however per WP:WITHDRAW simply withdrawing as the nominator is not enough. I do not want an edit war as I have already reverted a close on these merits previously today but I just wanted to let you know that the close is invalid. Presentation
Sorry but I've just had a look through the presentation slides you've just put onto your user page and have noticed on slide 25 there's the typo "editst" if you wanted to fix it. Excited to watch it in person! Panamitsu ✨ 11:32, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
- Ta. Look forward to meeting you. Schwede66 20:32, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
- Just had a browse too, looks like a great presentation! (Is that a shoutout to me?!) Wish I could be there this weekend, family plans preclude unfortunately, but it looks like an excellent programme and am sure will be lots of fun. Cheers, Chocmilk03 (talk) 21:27, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, that is a shout out. Wanted to check with you that you are ok with it. If you don’t like it, I’ll take it out. And yes, I for one am sad that you are not here. Schwede66 23:28, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
- More than OK, I'm absolutely chuffed! Chocmilk03 (talk) 00:10, 2 May 2026 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – May 2026
News and updates for administrators from the past month (April 2026).

Interface administrator changes
- Changes to user permissions made from Meta are now included in the local user permissions log (T6055).
- The autoconfirmed user group will soon be modified such that the four-day account age requirement begins when an account makes its first edit (T418484).
- The arbitration case SchroCat has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case closed on 15 April.
- Per a recent motion, appeals of blocks from the conflict-of-interest VRT queue are, by default, appealed on-wiki through the normal unblock process. However, they may be heard by the Committee if COIVRTers disagree on the interpretation of the evidence or believe ArbCom would be better suited to hear the appeal. Administrators are also advised that loosening or lifting such blocks without the consent of someone with access to the queue or ArbCom can be grounds for desysopping.
- Per a recent motion, restrictions issued directly by the Committee may now be enforced with blocks which work exactly like contentious topic blocks.
- The arbitration case Maghreb has been closed.
- The May 2026 administrator elections are scheduled to run from April 29 to May 19. The call for candidates ends May 5.
- The 2026 Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) election is scheduled to run from April 25 to June 1. Candidacy submissions close on May 10.
- A new noticeboard for non-urgent, batch page protection requests has been created, primarily for the enforcement of contentious topic restrictions.
The New-Zealander moved to draftspace
Thanks for your contributions to The New-Zealander. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing as a live article at this time because it has no sources. I have converted it to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.
Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit the draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. ~ŤheŴubṂachine-840≈ ● ✒️ 21:58, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
- Maybe have a look at the source at the bottom of the article that was there from edit number 1. Schwede66 22:05, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
- Well, there is one, but it lacks inline citations all around the page, and it doesn't have the reflist template. ~ŤheŴubṂachine-840≈ ● ✒️ 22:08, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
- Where does it say that an article can only exist when it has inline citations? And your assertion that there isn't a Reflist template is incorrect; it has been there since the first edit. Schwede66 22:24, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
- Oh. that's when I thought it didn't have and since it is now OK to move it back for improvements (if possible). ~ŤheŴubṂachine-840≈ ● ✒️ 22:33, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for patrolling new pages, Cosmic840. I did that for many years, too. What I learned early on is that it pays to look at a page creator's contribution history before considering tagging for deletion or moving to draft space. Had you done this step, you would have probably concluded that it'll be alright what I'm doing, as I've got a history that shows that I know what I'm doing. Schwede66 23:12, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
