Welcome back!
Welcome back to Wikipedia and thanks for your efforts to clean up vandalism! I highly recommend checking out this guide, Wikipedia:Cleaning up vandalism. An easy way to warn editors after reverting their edits is to use the tool Twinkle, available in the Gadgets section of your preferences page. Parksfan1955 (talk) 07:31, 26 April 2025 (UTC)

Hello The Sophocrat. Regarding the recent revert you made: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template index/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. –HirowoWiki (📝) 03:45, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, I use those templates a lot. I just usually don't use them when the IP in question has made a singular unconstructive edit in their history, as I believe such IPs are unlikely to edit again soon and a talk page notice may prompt them to edit more (probably unconstructively in such cases). I might be wrong though, and maybe I should also use them in such cases... Anyhow, thanks for the advice.
- P.S. I occasionally leave personalized messages on talk pages when I believe it will be significantly more effective than a template. Just so you know that's intentional. The Sophocrat (talk) 03:54, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- Okay, next time you can place warning templates when reverting vandalism. Thanks! :) –HirowoWiki (📝) 03:58, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @The Sophocrat, I noticed that you warned a user earlier but forgot to substitute the template. I fixed the error, just a friendly reminder to add "subst:" in the template when warning users. Have a good one!

- Okay, glad I can help with that :). Currently I mostly do recent changes patrolling (basically checking Recent changes with some particular filters to find unconstructive edits, and generally following the advice at Wikipedia:Recent changes patrol#What to do). Occasionally I improve article prose or references and answer questions at the Teahouse. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have. The Sophocrat (talk) 05:39, 1 June 2025 (UTC)

Carter v Canada - edit was censored
I wrote a brief comment about why Carter v Canada was wrongly and poorly decided. It got cut out/ deleted. It looks like Wikipedia does not like criticisms of this judicial decision. This is active censorship. There is so much to criticize this case for - and Wikipedia calls giving that criticism not neutral. The only way to appear neutral is to say nothing negative about the case, that is not neutral, that is supportive. AustralianLawyer4455 (talk) 05:36, 1 June 2025 (UTC)
- There seems to be a misunderstanding. We can, and often do, include negative coverage of a subject. However, the text must not be our own opinions but rather the interpretations of reliable sources. I assure you myself and most other editors have nothing to do with that case; we only wish to improve the encyclopedia. If you can find reliable sources that criticize (or cover criticism of) the case, then you are welcome to add them (see this guide on how to cite your sources). Have a nice day :) –The Sophocrat (talk) 20:21, 2 June 2025 (UTC)

This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing. Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range. How do temporary accounts work?

Voting in the 2025 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 1 December 2025. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate in the 2025 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:
We are currently in the discussion phase. The candidate subpages are open to questions and comments from everyone, in the same style as a request for adminship. You may discuss the candidates at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/December 2025/Discussion phase. On December 9, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's totals during the election. You must be extended confirmed to vote. Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which typically lasts between a couple days and a week. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (you may want to watchlist this page) and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate who has not been recalled must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and must also have received a minimum of 20 support votes. A candidate that has been recalled must have at least 55.0% support. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats"). Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

October 2026 Administrator Elections – Call for Candidates

The administrator elections process has officially started! Qualified editors are encouraged to find at least one experienced nominator. Self-nominations are also allowed. Please review instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/October 2026/Candidates.
Here is the schedule:
- September 29 – October 5: Nominations phase (we are here)
- October 8–12: Discussion phase
- October 13–19: SecurePoll voting phase
Please note the following:
- The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed. However, in practice, few candidates succeed without ~10K edits, some content creation, no recent behavioral issues, and a nominator.
- Prospective candidates are advised to become familiar with the community's expectations of administrators, which are much higher than the minimum requirement of having extended confirmed status. This includes reviewing successful and unsuccessful RFAs, reading the essay Wikipedia:Advice for admin elections candidates, and possibly requesting an optional poll on their chances of passing.
- The process will have a seven day call for candidates phase, a two day pause, a five day discussion phase, and a seven day private vote using SecurePoll. Discussion and questions are only allowed on the candidate pages during the discussion phase.
- The outcome of this process is identical to making a request for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA versus administrator elections.
- Administrator elections are also a valid means of regaining adminship for de-sysopped editors.
Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. Later, a user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.
If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.
