Speedy deletion nomination of File:Ca01van.jpg

A tag has been placed on File:Ca01van.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement of https://www.victorianrailways.net/guards%20vans/guards%20pages/ca/ca.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Whpq (talk) 12:10, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for March 4
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Z-class Melbourne tram, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Kings Park. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, --DPL bot (talk) 19:57, 4 March 2025 (UTC)

Preserved VR carriages
Hey,
Thanks for your edits. FYI, I've removed 72BW and 79BW from Victorian Railways Short W type carriage because they belong here - Victorian Railways Long W type carriage. Otherwise, at some point someone will come along asking for references to prove various cars' status in preservation, just be prepared for that. Personally I don't mind all that much, but it is more or less inevitable. If you need guidance on how to add references I can probably help out there; if you need to know what makes a reference "reliable", I've tripped over that a few times myself. If you want to get more involved in the Australian Transport project, we have a page here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian Transport.
Cheers,
Anothersignalman (talk) 10:40, 18 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Anothersignalman Glad to help, in the future I'll try to add more references. Although it does get hard as in some cases I don't like posting exact locations of rolling stock. Regardless I have been documenting ex VR rolling stock for a long while and such, I have made a list of all the carriages I've come across. I will definitely join the group. 28RM
Do you know the identity of the trailer unit for 28RM? As noted in the article the compatible candidates were unclassed but numbered 100-111 and 220-234. Anothersignalman (talk) 06:43, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Anothersignalman My apologies, no I don't know the identity of the trailer unit. All I can say it's located in Emberton. If I could share a photo of it I could show a picture of it. Wb3110 (talk) 08:22, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
- After about a year the VR stopped marking the trailer identities externally, I think it was only written inside somewhere, maybe in the driving compartment.
- There are ways to share photos on Wiki if you want. Easiest with photos you take yourself and upload to Flickr, but you need to set the license/copyright to something Wikipedia will accept. Then you can use this tool - https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:UploadWizard Anothersignalman (talk) 09:32, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Anothersignalman I believe RM28 trailer at the time of being placed off register was no 223. Another thing I was wondering if it would be good to make a table of every Tait Carriage that includes it's history eg as built number and class. Wb3110 (talk) 03:50, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
- I have a spreadsheet based on the Rolling Stock Books (I think No.10, from memory?) which we could use as a starting point, but it should be divided by class, and each table would need to be collapsible so they don't swamp the article with content the general user (i.e. not either of us) would think is irrelevant, otherwise someone else is liable to come along and delete it. By my count there were a total of 623 Tait cars and 292 Swingdoor cars, counting the two M cars that were of both types twice but not counting the swingdoors etc that didn't make it into electric service. Another issue is that we should have a standard format for this sort of thing; the Taits only had a handful of designs, while the Swingdoors had about 30 diffferent variants when taking into account things like compartment sizes.
- To give an idea, these are the columns from my Swingdoor spreadsheet:
- Page of book
- Unique ID (so I can keep track)

- Quite a bit of that data would be consolidated into infoboxes, so what data would go in the tables? Consider the format of the tables on the A2 and D3 pages. Maybe start a discussion in the Australian Transport talk page and come to a consensus re the specifications, then I can look at converting my spreadsheet into wikitable format.

- Oh, re the Australian Transport page - I recommend adding yourself to this list - Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian Transport#Participants Anothersignalman (talk) 12:37, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Anothersignalman I would prefer to condense the table in headings such as "Number, Year Built, Original Number/Class". If necessary we can expand it to include the post 1899 renumberings, but I would prefer to keep it a bit more simple.
- I will add myself to the list soon. Wb3110 (talk) 08:40, 26 January 2026 (UTC)
- If those were the only headings you were after, it's easier to do it as a block of text e.g. "Cars 31-65 were built in 2026, and 66-73 in 2027", while noting that batches of construction don't necessarily follow yearly calendars so you might have a batch entering service consistently from November to June, with gaps either side. Also, the codes changed so often and so wildly (including de-electrification) that there's really not much point listing them for a specific year only. Anothersignalman (talk) 09:10, 26 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Anothersignalman I'm thinking if we switched to an another app it might be easier to talk. do you have an email or something like that where I could talk to you there? Wb3110 (talk) 10:29, 26 January 2026 (UTC)
- I do, but this is not just between us, it's a wider community discussion which is why I think putting something on a relevant talk page should be the next step. I can set that up for you to respond, if you're not comfortable with it? Anothersignalman (talk) 10:36, 26 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Anothersignalman Alright sure. That's fine Wb3110 (talk) 10:40, 26 January 2026 (UTC)
- Done. If there aren't any responses in a day or so we can ping a few other common users to see what they say. Anothersignalman (talk) 11:05, 26 January 2026 (UTC)
- We haven't had any replies, so we should perhaps ask other people. For this list I was hoping to only include the preserved Tait Cars and their history. I have a whole list of their renumbering's and dates.. Wb3110 (talk) 11:51, 3 February 2026 (UTC)
- If you want to try making your own table, this is what I normally use:
- Note different tabs for different output styles, "MediaWiki" is the one you need for this site.

Hello, I'm Danners430. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Victorian Railways Dd class, but you didn't provide a reliable source. On Wikipedia, it's important that article content be verifiable. If you'd like to resubmit your change with a citation, your edit is archived in the page history. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Danners430 tweaks made 12:15, 5 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Danners430 I had provided a source named "Australian Steam" at the bottom of the article. So I'm not sure what's not reliable about the source. I was not able to spend as long editing the article as I would have hoped so apologies for that. Wb3110 (talk) 23:32, 5 February 2026 (UTC)
- You provided a single source on one row of a large table with more than 10 rows - in other words only a single row was sourced and the entire rest of the content was unsourced Danners430 tweaks made 23:34, 5 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Danners430 Alright, I will fix that later today. Wb3110 (talk) 23:36, 5 February 2026 (UTC)
- Also, having a closer look at that source, I'm not sure it can be classed as reliable - it's both a self-published source and user-generated content at the same time, as it appears to be based entirely on contributions by users or "the webmaster". Sometimes they do cite sources, so I'd suggest we use those instead of that website. Danners430 tweaks made 23:51, 5 February 2026 (UTC)

Hello! Thank you for your efforts to improve Wikipedia, and in particular for adding references, as you did to Victorian Railways Dd class! However, adding a bare URL is not ideal, and exposes the reference to link rot. It is preferable to use proper citation templates when citing sources, including details such as title, author, date, and any other information necessary for a bibliographic citation. Here's an example of a full citation using the {{cite web}} template to cite a web page:
Lorem ipsum<ref>{{cite web |title=Download the Scanning Software - Windows and Mac |publisher=Canon Inc |work=Ask a Question |date=2022 |url=https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART174839 |access-date=2022-04-02}}</ref> dolor sit amet.
which displays inline in the running text of the article as:
- Lorem ipsum[1] dolor sit amet.
and displays under References as:
- ^ Download the Scanning Software - Windows and Mac". Ask a Question. Canon Inc. 2022. Retrieved 2022-04-02.
If you've already added one or more bare URLs to an article, there are tools available to expand them into full citations: try the Citer tool, or in the wikitext editor, try the reFill tool, and in the Visual Editor, the reference dialog can convert some bare urls into a full citation. Once again, thanks for adding references to articles. Danners430 tweaks made 12:18, 9 February 2026 (UTC)
Please do not add or change content, as you did at Victorian Railways S class, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources to see how to add references to an article. Thank you. Danners430 tweaks made 13:10, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- My apologies, although I would like to add a source for the S Class Tender Tank I mentioned. I currently do not have one as I have not been able to get photos of it personally. I will try and find a source for it but it's very unlikely I will find one. Wb3110 (talk) 13:21, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- I hate to be a bit forceful then - but if you cannot find a reliable source, then it, quite simply, doesn't belong on Wikipedia. This is an encyclopedia, based on verifiable facts - it's not a news outlet or fandom. I'm not saying that's how you're treating it at all, just giving examples of where such edits would be appropriate. Danners430 tweaks made 13:23, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Danners430 Hi, I wanted to know why you removed my edit for the Victorian Railways S Class? I had provided a image as a source but for whatever reason that is not good enough.. Wb3110 (talk) 07:43, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
- As I said in my edit summary, images aren't reliable sources unless they're published by a reliable source - they're user generated content Danners430 tweaks made 08:06, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

K Class table dates
Hey,
FYI, I'd recommend using the template for dates, e.g. {{dts|format=dmy|1987|July|1}} in the table, it makes them display e.g. 1 July 1987 but also sort correctly.
Anothersignalman (talk) 08:13, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- I will add that to the table, but just need to know what part of the table it needs to be included in. Wb3110 (talk) 11:36, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- Every cell where a date is listed, so from the looks of it roughly 500 entries. I can do it with an Excel import/export if you prefer, using functions LEFT, MID and RIGHT to grab the relevant strings and insert them into the wikitext. Anothersignalman (talk) 12:28, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- Sure, the Excel import would be best. Wb3110 (talk) 12:31, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- For future reference, I've copied the table across to an excel spreadsheet, used CTRL+H to delete all the extra spaces, then inserted a column between B and C and filled it with this text:
=IF(B2="","","{{dts|format=dmy|"&RIGHT(B2,4)&"|"&MID(B2,4,2)&"|"&LEFT(B2,2)&"}}"). It's not quite perfect; I need to manually add zeros to dates 1-9 of each month, for example, and it won't work as well for month-year or year-only data, but it makes the process at lot faster. Anothersignalman (talk) 12:50, 11 February 2026 (UTC)- After generating the wikicode version, I copied the table here - https://www.tablesgenerator.com/mediawiki_tables - then pasted to a preview of the page for troubleshooting and manual corrections in a few cells; the easiest way to correct things like empty dates is to copy the text of the new wikitable into something like word or a very basic text editor and use ctrl+h to get rid of multiple instances of identical errors.
