Introduction to contentious topics
You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practices;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
To edit in the Israeli-Palestinian topic area on Wikipedia accounts must be at least thirty days old and have at least 500 edits. This includes editing talk pages, with the sole exception being for edit requests. IOHANNVSVERVS (talk) 19:59, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- If you want to make an edit request, use WP:EDITXY format and place it at the bottom of the talk page. Selfstudier (talk) 14:32, 8 January 2025 (UTC)

Is there a reason why you're ignoring what was said above? M.Bitton (talk) 00:08, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi,
- I'm sorry did I edit the page directly? I didn't think that happened. So I should submit an edit request as I do not have 500 edits? Thank you. Wordsmatter101 (talk) 01:59, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
- You're only allowed to make edit requests (provided, they're not disruptive). When an edit request is answered as "not done", it usually means that it won't be done (for all kind of reasons) and there is no need for you to keep repeating what you said. M.Bitton (talk) 19:56, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for the feedback - the process isn't easy for me to follow but I am trying and I appreciate your help. The reply I gave should be handled how? The citation they provide does not support what is being stated - is there a way to properly challenge or request a review? Thank you again and if there is a FAQ or someone else I should direct these questions to - I am happy to do so. I don't want to impose on you. thank you. - Hi,
- Sorry, please ignore the latest reply. I found a mentor that was assigned to me so I will address the questions to them. So sorry and thank you for your help - I appreciate it very much. Wordsmatter101 (talk) 21:29, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
