Premise
Adapted from Colleen Hoover's best-selling novel, this seductive, psychological thriller follows renowned author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway) and Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), a struggling writer who relocates to the remote Crawford estate to ghostwrite for Verity. After Lowen uncovers what appears to be Verity's chilling autobiographical notes, she wrestles with the disturbing and twisted confessions about Verity’s husband Jeremy (Josh Hartnett), and finds it hard to separate fiction from reality, manipulation from attraction, and opportunity from obsession.

Production
A film adaptation of Colleen Hoover's 2018 novel Verity was being developed by Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund and Eat the Cat, and they had hired April Maguire and Will Honley to write the screenplay before November 2020 for the then-named Amazon Studios.[3] In May 2024, Hilary Seitz was hired to do a rewrite of the film's screenplay.[4] After additional draft work from Angela LaManna, Antosca was finalizing the screenplay himself in November 2024 when Michael Showalter had signed on to direct the film and Anne Hathaway agreed to lead the film as Verity Crawford.[5] The next month, Josh Hartnett and Dakota Johnson joined the cast for the film.[6] In February 2025, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Brady Wagner, Irina Dvorovenko, K. K. Moggie, and Michael Abbott Jr. were cast in undisclosed roles.[7]
Principal photography began in February 2025,[8] with Hathaway and Hartnett shooting on location in New York City.[9] Johnson began shooting her scenes by the following month.[10] The production wrapped in April 2025.
Volker Bertelmann composed the score for the film.[11]
