Clarification
I guess divisions are rated as Top importance, districts as Mid and upazilas as low? TrueMoriarty Talk | Contribs 15:25, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
- Low importance (to WikiProject Bangladesh) seems right for upazilas. In practice, districts have been rated mid importance and divisions have been rated high importance (top importance being reserved for Bangladesh and a few cities: Dhaka, Chittagong, and Sylhet - Armanaziz also marked Cox's Bazar as top importance, but is it really?). --Worldbruce (talk) 03:10, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the clarification. And as for Cox's Bazaar, if there was a fourth city in Bangladesh which deserved top importance, then it should be that. It does not have much importance in the country itself, but internationally it is very important (Being the country's most busiest tourist spot and being a claimant for having the longest beach). But I am not absolutely sure for it being a top importance city.

- Pageviews reveals an interesting picture. Dhaka and Chittagong stand out from the crowd. Cox's Bazar has a surprising number of watchers, but its pageviews, edits, and size don't rise above the pack of second-tier cities. Evidently it's personally more important to editors than to Wikipedia's readers, despite not appearing to need special editor attention. Go figure. --Worldbruce (talk) 15:31, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
- Reduced the importance to High. Cox's Bazar is level-5 vital class, compared to Dhaka, Sylhet, and Chittagong, which are level-4 vital class.

Top importance articles
With a heavy heart I would like to point out that there are some extremely low importance articles rated as top (eg priyotoma). I suggest to fix a quota for top importance (perhaps 50?). TrueMoriarty Talk | Contribs 09:10, 6 March 2026 (UTC)
- @TrueMoriarty: Priyotoma falls into the realm of WP:SOFIXIT. It doesn't make sense for any specific film to be more important than the broad-topic article Cinema of Bangladesh, so no one is likely to argue with you if you downgrade Priyotoma. What others in Category:Top-importance Bangladesh articles do you feel have overstated importance? To me the category doesn't look too bad, though the presence of Ilish is fishy.
- A quota would be instruction creep, and doesn't sound like a good idea. The number of articles in the scope of this WikiProject has grown steadily, more than doubling in the time I've participated. One would expect the number of top-importance articles to grow as well, so one would have to adjust the quota constantly. If project participants conclude a topic is of top importance, would they have to eject another topic from top importance to stay within some arbitrary quota?
- Keep in mind that "importance" is not very important. Readers interested in the WikiProject's topic area would benefit more from a higher-importance article being raised to a particular quality than a lower-importance article. That may inform project participants deciding where to spend their time. But editors are volunteers, and may choose to work on things of personal interest instead, or on articles that are easier to improve. --Worldbruce (talk) 18:39, 14 March 2026 (UTC)
