How much content is too much?
Dodge Charger is one of the examples given of a set index article. (Current state here.) Another editor has challenged that, because it's "written in prose." While this guideline clearly allows for additional information in a set index beyond a bare list, at what point would there be "too much" prose for it to be considered a set index? (In this case, the current seventh-generation section is clearly too much for an overview, and I plan to condense that irrespective of what the article is classified as.) The guideline doesn't have clarity on that. --Sable232 (talk) 13:39, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
- Remember that set index articles are WP:Stand-alone lists. There is no guideline about "too much prose" for SIAs because there is no such guideline for stand-alone lists (that I know of). Adding such an idea to the SIA guideline would be a mistake, I think. — hike395 (talk) 14:58, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
- I wouldn't say I'm asking for anything to be added to the guideline - I suppose in the simplest terms, I'm looking for some clarity on whether or not, based on typical norms, the other editor has any justification to say something isn't a set index because they think there's too much information in it. --Sable232 (talk) 15:21, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
List format?
@Transhumanist: I reverted the recent expansion of the table, pending a discussion here.
I don't think "has a list format" is a well-defined Wikipedia concept. The guideline for list formats appears to be neither prescriptive or exhaustive. As far as I can tell, a list article is any article that is about a list of items or concepts. Dodge Charger is still categorized as a list article (on Talk:Dodge Charger). If we'd like to add the notion of "has a list format" to WP:SIA, I think we would need to define it first at WP:SAL (and it's not clear that such a definition is helpful to the encyclopedia). — hike395 (talk) 05:41, 18 March 2026 (UTC)
