First powered Icelandic boat

Members may be interested in the discussion in WT:SHIPS about whether Stanley (boat) meets WP:GNG. The stub is now sourced and there is more content at is:Stanley (bátur), sourced to this article. Unfortunately, GoogleTranslate doesn't seem to cope with Icelandic very idiomatically. Can anyone here assist with this? Davidships (talk) 10:31, 24 February 2022 (UTC)

Should Earl and Jarl be split?

Please comment at Talk:Earl#Split article? to give your opinion on whether text on the Scandinavian jarl should be moved to Jarl (title), which currently redirects to Earl. Thanks. Ltwin (talk) 01:55, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

Translating "Baðstofa"

In the article Agnes Magnúsdóttir this was translated as "bathroom". Having recently read the book Burial Rites based on her life, and struggled to understand this word, I'm fairly sure that's not the best translation for an early 19th-century house. I've edited the article to give an inter-wiki link and added "((the main living space of the house)", but someone more familiar with Iceland and Icelandic could certainly do better. Over to you. According to Árnastofnun, the english translation is communal living room. Baðstofa seems to have originally have been some kind of a sauna according to the Icelandic Web of Science (run by the University of Iceland). By the 16th century it had transformed into the main living space of a house. Alvaldi (talk) 18:38, 21 March 2024 (UTC)

Sources on Elephant Rock (Iceland)

I'm trying to bring the article Elephant Rock (Iceland) to GA, but a user pointed out in the talk page that two sources may not be reliable (Treehugger and Times of India). See, these sources are the only covering the folklore paragraph of the article; and I already have extensively look for sources in the English language, but obviously there's a scarcity. So, I was wondering if someone that is proficient in the Icelandic language could be so kind and do a quick look into sources in the language. Many thanks. 2 sources added for the main definition. Open to truncating the lists, but the article is generally correct. Snævar (talk) 17:55, 25 April 2026 (UTC)

Help with sources for Draft:Júlían J. K. Jóhannsson

Hi everyone, I'm currently trying to work on an article for an Icelandic powerlifter, Júlian J. K. Jóhansson. I found some Icelandic-language sources for the article (about him winning the Icelandic Sportsperson of the Year award and his world-record deadlift). Machine translation seems to say that they back up these claims, but WP:NONENG says not to rely on machine translation for BLPs (which this is), so I wanted to ask if someone who speaks Icelandic can confirm these sources are okay to use.

Could someone confirm that these sources check out (source 1, source 2)?

I've published a draft at Draft:Júlían J. K. Jóhannsson for now.

Thanks in advance. Tymewalk (talk) 03:42, 27 April 2026 (UTC)

Hi. Native icelander here. Source 1 does confirm the whole paragraph the citation is positioned in. https://www.powerlifting.sport/fileadmin/ipf/data/results/2018/open/detailed_scoresheet_m.htm contains the offical information. The weight classification matters, because the overall record at the time was Eddie Hall lifting 500kg in 2016 (https://www.foxsports.com.au/more-sports/eddie-hall-reveals-near-death-after-worlds-strongest-man-world-record-500kg-dead-lift-the-beast-vs-the-mountain-boxing-news/news-story/7b98a5c6a5448d5a162d2fe9c6f02534 ).
Source 2 confirms the sentance it is next to. Snævar (talk) 08:18, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
Thank you! I clarified the weight class and added that scoresheet as a citation to the page. Tymewalk (talk) 11:58, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
