Zonbalan (Persian: زنبلان, romanized: Zonbalān;[1] Syriac: Zūmalān)[2][a] is a village in Nazlu-e Shomali Rural District, Nazlu District, Urmia County, West Azerbaijan province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 127, in 37 families.[4]

History
Zūmalān was inhabited by 35 Church of the East Christian families and was served by the Church of Mart Maryam and 1 priest in 1862, according to the Russian archimandrite Sophoniah.[5] There were 44 Church of the East Christian families with 1 church and 3 priests at Zūmalān in 1877, as per Edward Lewes Cutts.[6] Basil Nikitin, the Russian consul at Urmia, recorded that the village was entirely populated by Christians just before the First World War.[7] It was located in the Anzel district.[5]
