Le nom valide complet (avec auteur) de ce taxon est Acanthemblemaria Metzelaar, 1919[1]. Acanthemblemaria spinosa est l'espèce type[2]. Son espèce type est Acanthemblemaria spinosa[1].

Étymologie
Le nom générique Acanthemblemaria est la combinaison du grec ancien ἄκανθα (ákantha), « épine », et du genre Emblemaria et fait référence d'une part à la proximité de ces deux genres et d'autre part aux épines courtes et robustes entourant l'œil d’Acanthemblemaria spinosa[3].
