Charles R. Pellegrino, né le [1] à New York, est un écrivain américain. Il a publié plusieurs livres traitant de sciences et d'archéologie, dont Return to Sodom and Gomorrah, Ghosts of the Titanic, Unearthing Atlantis et Ghosts of Vesuvius.
Charles R. Pellegrino a prétendu détenir un Ph.D., bien que ce soit faux, et des erreurs dans son livre The Last Train from Hiroshima (2010) ont mené son éditeur à le retirer quelques mois après sa publication.
Au milieu des années 1970, Pellegrino obtient un baccalauréat universitaire et une maîtrise de l'université de Long Island[2].
Pellegrino affirme avoir obtenu un Ph.D. de l'université Victoria de Wellington en 1982[2]. L'université concernée a démenti l'affirmation[3],[4],[5],[6]. Pellegrino a répliqué que l'université lui a « retiré son Ph.D. en raison de désaccords sur la théorie de l'évolution[trad 1],[3]. » Pellegrino affirme par la suite que son diplôme lui a été rendu en 1997[5]. Après enquête, l'université a affirmé que, bien qu'il ait été doctorant, la thèse soumise par Pellegrino a été jugée inadéquate pour l'obtention du diplôme et ce, malgré une procédure d'appel intentée par l'intéressé[2].
