Wahlkreis Bournemouth West

Bournemouth West ist ein Wahlkreis (englisch constituency) (englisch constituency) in der Grafschaft Dorset im Südwesten Englands, der einen Abgeordneten ins britische Unterhaus (House of Commons) entsendet. Er besteht seit 1950 und liegt in der Unitary Authority Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. Der Wahlkreis umfasst das Stadtzentrum und die westlichen Vororte von Bournemouth, darunter Alder Hills, Ensbury Park, Kinson und Winton.

Geschichte
Die Boundary Commission for England schuf den Wahlkreis im Hinblick auf die Unterhauswahl 1950. Er entstand durch die Aufteilung des bisherigen Wahlkreises Bournemouth. 1974, 1983, 1997, 2010 und 2024 nahm die Boundary Commission im Rahmen periodischer Überprüfungen verschiedene Änderungen des Grenzverlaufs vor.
Der Wahlkreis umfasst(e) folgende Gebiete:
- 1950–1974: im County Borough Bournemouth die Wards Central, East Cliff, Kinson, Moordown North, Moordown South, Redhill Park, Westbourne, West Cliff und Winton[2]
- 1974–1983: im County Borough die Wards Central, East Cliff, Kinson North, Kinson South, Redhill Park, Westbourne, West Cliff und Winton[3]
- 1983–1997: im Borough of Bournemouth die Wards Ensbury Park, Kinson, Redhill Park, Talbot Woods, Wallisdown, Westbourne, West Cliff und Winton sowie im Borough of Poole die Wards Alderney, Bourne Valley und Canford Magna[4]
- 1997–2010: im Borough of Bournemouth die Wards Central, East Cliff, Ensbury Park, Kinson, Redhill Park, Talbot Woods, Wallisdown, Westbourne, West Cliff und Winton[5]
- 2010–2024: im Borough of Bournemouth die Wards Central, Kinson North, Kinson South, Redhill & Northbourne, Talbot & Branksome Woods, Wallisdown & Winton West, Westbourne & West Cliff und Winton East sowie im Borough of Poole die Wards Alderney und Branksome East[6]
- seit 2024: in der Unitary Authority Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole die Wards Alderney & Bourne Valley, Bournemouth Central, Kinson, Redhill & Northbourne, Talbot & Branksome Woods, Wallisdown & Winton West, Westbourne & West Cliff und and Winton East[7]
Wie der Vorgängerwahlkreis Bournemouth war Bournemouth West jahrzehntelang eine Hochburg der Conservative Party. Keinem Kandidaten einer anderen Partei gelang es, hier gewählt zu werden. Dies änderte sich bei der Unterhauswahl 2024, als der amtierende Abgeordnete Conor Burns fast die Hälfte seiner bisherigen Wählerschaft verlor. Dies ermöglichte es Jessica Toale, den Sitz erstmals für die Labour Party zu gewinnen.
