6 March â The Finnish Army Corps of Aviation, a forerunner of the Finnish Air Force, is founded. The blue swastika, Viking in origin, is adopted as its symbol, in tribute to the Swedish explorer and aviator Eric von Rosen, who donated the first plane.^[1]
15 March â Finnish Civil War: The Battle of Tampere begins, continuing until 6 April.^[2]
9 October â Prince Frederick Charles of Hesse is elected King of Finland.^[3]
14 December â Prince Frederick Charles of Hesse renounces the Finnish throne, without setting foot in the country.
