Aung Myat Htay (မြန်မာ: အောင်မြတ်ဌေး; born 1973) is a Myanmar contemporary Artist, Independent curator and educator. Aung is a former lecturer at National University of Art and Culture. He is an 2013 ACC Asian Cultural Council grantee artist to 2014 research and create art in New York.[1] He expresses social messages in contemporary sense and his works presented in several regions of Asia, Europe and US.[2] He founded The School of Contemporary Art Project (SoCA), an alternative art learning platform since 2015, and published art books, art documentation series and research papers.[3]

Education and academic lectures
Aung Myat Htay was born in Mandalay, Myanmar. He was practicing bronze sculpture assisted his father since he was young. He studied art at the State School of Fine Arts in Mandalay, his hometown, and graduated in sculpture as Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.A Sculpture) from the University of Art and Culture (Yangon) in 1998. Currently live and work in Yangon.[4]
He research at the Tokyo University of Arts, for the fellowship grant by the Ishibashi Foundation/The Japan Foundation for 2024.[5] His contributions to art education include serving as a guest lecturer for the Art Education Speaker Series at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) in the United States, where he discussed contemporary art practices in the Southeast Asian context.[6]
International exhibitions and fellowships
Aung Myat Htay practices contemporary art since 2008 in local and international art workshop, seminars and participated in the well-known international residencies, major art festival, curator workshop, grants and fellowships.

Curatorial and archival work
School of Contemporary Art (SoCA): Founded by Aung Myat Htay, SoCA play a crucial role in an alternative art learning platform for young art enthusiastic across the country. As an independent platform SoCA operates with artists collectives and volunteers, and offering online art programs, art workshops, and class-room art books series in Myanmar. SoCA is rather than an institution, but a collective and alternative art project prioritizes the sustainability in artistic creations and improve our abilities, using digital technologies and online media as a core medium for creativity.[3]
The Documentation Series of Myanmar Contemporary Art: Aung created the Documentation series for contemporary art in Myanmar, since 2013, as a first volume of it with the title “Video Magazine”. Later in 2018, 2020, 2024, 2025 he organized the new contemporary artists, and create a new volumes in title: The Documentation of Myanmar Contemporary Art, and published the video interviews and catalogue books.[12]
Academic Engagement: Aung is play a role of educator, he created the Curious Academy Myanmar collaborated with the Goethe Institut Myanmar, and work with the international art professors from Singapore, US and Germany. One of his lecture as a guest guest speaker, invited for the Art Education Speaker Series at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt). He has also presented at the NAFA Southeast Asia Art Forum (2024).[6] [13]
