Block Blast! is a block puzzle game for iOS and Android devices, developed by Hungry Studio. Players place blocks on an 8×8 grid to clear lines and earn points. The game's two main modes are a classic mode and adventure mode.[1]

Gameplay

Block Blast! is played on an 8×8 grid using a placement-based system. Each turn, players receive three block shapes to place on the board. A new set appears only after all three are placed. Completing a full row or column clears it and increases the score. Play ends when no available pieces can be placed on the board.[1][2]Blocks do not drop automatically and cannot be rotated, and the game does not preview the next set of pieces.[2]

User base and downloads

As of December 2024, Block Blast! had about 40 million daily active users and 160 million monthly active users.[3]AppMagic estimates cited in industry reporting put Block Blast! at approximately 368 million downloads in 2025.[4] By January 2026, the game was reported to have 70 million daily active users and 300 million monthly active users.[5]

App Store Rankings

Apple’s year-end reports for the United States listed Block Blast! as the most-downloaded free iPhone game in 2024 and 2025.[6][7]

In Apple’s iPad download charts, the game ranked seventh in 2024 and second in 2025.[8][9]

Awards

Block Blast! received a Gold Stevie Award for Gold Winner: Best Mobile Apps / Casual Games at the 2025 Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards.[10]

The game also won in the Gaming Technology category at the Global Tech Awards and received Honoring Excellence in Technology "Gaming Technology Winner" and "Casual Games (Mobile Apps) Winner".[11]

In Japan, Block Blast! received a Special Award at the App Ape Award 2025, receiving a Special Award for its significant growth and user engagement throughout the year.[12] According to Sensor Tower data reported by Dengeki Online, the game ranked first in downloads in Japan during the 2025–2026 New Year holiday period, with more than 450,000 downloads between December 27, 2025, and January 4, 2026.[13]
