Tim Carter[1] is an American musician, songwriter, and producer, best known as the guitarist for the British rock band Kasabian[2]. He joined the group as their touring guitarist in 2013 and became an official member in 2022. In addition to performing, Carter has contributed guitar, vocals, drums, keyboards, and production to several Kasabian albums, including 48:13 (2014), For Crying Out Loud (2017), The Alchemist's Euphoria (2022), and Happenings (2024). He is also a founding member of the musical project Loose Tapestries, created with Serge Pizzorno and Noel Fielding for the Channel 4 series Noel Fielding's Luxury Comedy.[3]

Early life and education

Carter was born in San Francisco, California. He began playing music at the age of ten, learning the clarinet, piano, and drums. While attending Foothill Middle School, he played drums in the school's jazz band and continued performing with the band program at Northgate High School. During his teens, he formed a group called The Field Mice[4] with his close friend Dave Andre.

After high school, Carter studied music at Diablo Valley College before transferring to the University of California, Santa Cruz. While there, he performed with the funk band Supersauce,[5] which included future Saturday Night Live cast member Maya Rudolph. He graduated in 1994 with a degree in music. After returning to San Francisco, Carter studied drums with jazz drummer Tony Williams and performed with several Bay Area acts including The Uptones,[6] Amberslam,[7] Five Point Plan,[8] Rondo Brothers, and Jim Greer.

Career

2005–2011: Early collaborations

During the mid-2000s, Carter collaborated with producer Dan the Automator,[9] contributing to projects including Deltron 3030, Crudo with Mike Patton, Féfé, Anaïs Croze,[10] Pillow Fight, Miles Kane, and Kasabian.[11][12] In 2008, he began working with the British band Kasabian, contributing to their 2009 album West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum and all subsequent releases.

In 2009, Carter contributed uncredited vocals to the Evian "Roller Babies" commercial, a viral advertisement produced by Dan the Automator. While the ad featured a remix of Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight," official credits did not acknowledge Carter's voice. His involvement has been noted in independent sources and personal communications, though not in major media outlets at the time of release. The Evian Roller Babies commercial,[13] which was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the most-viewed online advertisement at the time.[14]

2012–present: Kasabian

Carter began recording full-time with Serge Pizzorno and Kasabian in 2012, and joined as touring guitarist in March 2013, debuting at Wembley Arena for Comic Relief.[15] He has since toured internationally[16] and in the UK including festivals like Glastonbury,[17][18] Latitude,[19] TRNSMT,[20] InMusic[21] and contributed to the albums West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum, Velociraptor! , 48:13 (2014), For Crying Out Loud (2017), The Alchemist's Euphoria (2022), and Happenings (2024).[22][23]. New Album,ACT III, from Columbia records will be out Summer 2026 and will make it's live debuts during the Summer Festivals in Europe.[24] He is currently based in Leicester, England.

Equipment

Carter plays Gibson and Fender guitars, frequently using vintage 1960s Gibson SGs, Les Paul Customs, and a custom Telecaster by Rich White.[25] He also uses a Gibson L-00 acoustic guitar and Marshall amplifiers.[26][27]
