History
The inaugural race was held in 1990 for GTO and GTU competitors in the IMSA GT Championship. Dorsey Schroeder won the race despite missing both the hood and front bumper on his Mercury Cougar.[2] In 1991, Steve Millen claimed the overall win after contact between the leading pair of Robby Gordon and Pete Halsmer.[3]
After a 15 year absence, sports cars returned to the streets of Long Beach with the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series in a 90-minute sprint.[4] Luis Díaz and Scott Pruett won the race in a Riley Mk XX-Lexus.[5]
