The Maukharis of Gaya were a branch of the Maukhari dynasty that ruled the Magadha region.[3] They were likely the original branch of the Maukharis and a later branch split off from them to establish the more prominent Maukharis of Kannauj.[4] They have been dated from the fifth to the early sixth centuries.[5]
