Peter Roche is an Irish Fine Gael politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Galway East constituency since the 2024 general election.[1][2]
Roche was a Fine Gael member of Galway County Council for the Tuam area from 2009 to 2024.[3] He stood unsuccessfully at 1999 and 2004 elections as an independent candidate.[4] He was an unsuccessful Fine Gael candidate at the 2020 general election for Galway East.[4]
After the 2024 local elections, he was elected as the new Cathaoirleach of the Tuam district.[5]
During the 2026 Irish fuel protests Roche was instrumental in organising meetings with protest representatives who were turned away from a meeting with the government. He said that there was a "serious lack of trust" in government by the fuel protestors but later voted confidence in the government in response to a joint motion of no confidence tabled by opposition parties.[6][7]
