Roland Gratzer

Roland Gratzer (born 1983) is an Austrian radio presenter, writer, actor, and performer. He is known for his work for the Austrian public broadcaster ORF, especially on FM4, as a member of the Austrian art collective monochrom, and for the satirical history series 4000 Jahre Niederlagen, which received the Radiopreis der Erwachsenenbildung in 2024.[1][2][3]
Gratzer has worked as a presenter and editor for FM4 and became known there through comedy and call-in formats with Hannes Duscher.[4] In 2014, Duscher and Gratzer took over the late-night FM4 slot Top FM4.[5] In 2018, they co-created the ORF television late-night comedy format Top1 mit Duscher & Gratzer.[6][7] In 2021, Duscher and Gratzer also hosted the ORF road-talk format Hotel Campinski.[8]
Alongside his broadcasting work, Gratzer has been active with monochrom since the mid-2000s.[9][10] He has appeared as an actor in Johannes Grenzfurthner's films Razzennest (2022) and Solvent (2024).[11][12]
In 2024, Gratzer launched the FM4 series 4000 Jahre Niederlagen, a satirical retelling of Austrian history from the perspective of defeat, failure, and overlooked figures.[13] The series received the Radiopreis der Erwachsenenbildung in 2024.[14] In 2026, Gratzer published the book 4000 Jahre Niederlagen. Österreichs beste Geschichten vom Scheitern, based on the series.[15][16]
He has also been involved in the East Styria cultural festival komm.st.[17]
