Merge proposal
- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- The result of this discussion was to not merge the 2024 and 2024–25 season articles, but rather the 2024–25 and 2025 season articles.
I think the 2024 Premier Volleyball League season and 2024–25 Premier Volleyball League season are actually a singular season rather than two separate seasons. Upon looking at this article from the PVL website, it states that the 2024–25 All-Filipino Conference is part of an "extended season".
Aside from that, the MVP award given by the PVL Press Corps last May is referred to as the "Season MVP" by the league and various media. The award itself is based on performance from the 2024 Reinforced Conference to the 2024–25 AFC. Recently, the league released a news article on trade rules which includes a statement that the 2025 Reinforced Conference will "kick off the league’s main calendar in October", essentially marking the new season.
However, it is worth noting that some sources state that the 2024–25 AFC is part of 2024–25 season. PVL president Ricky Palou also previously stated that the 2024 season would only have two conferences and that the season would end with the planned "Reinforced Invitational Conference", but that was before the PVL announced the aforementioned "extended season".
Considering all of this, does that mean that the 2024–25 AFC is actually the fourth conference of the 2024 season, or is it more of a transitional conference like with the 2004 PBA Fiesta Conference? MarcusAbacus (talk) 13:00, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- The PVL source is the most authoritative on the 2024-25 AFC being part of an "extended season". A Twitter source from the PVL puts the time stamp of the press release with the extended season on February 11, 2024. The only two conference instead of three claim as you pointed out was before the announcement. Philstar on January 2024. The Philippine News Agency (PNA) source reporting the 2024–25 AFC as a new season may have been a misinterpretation and the "extended season" got mistranslated as a new season in itself.
- Then its clear that the upcoming 2025 Reinforced Season will be part of a new season.
- So either the 2024-25 AFC is the implicit fourth season or a conference which is part of a season of in itself. Hariboneagle927 (talk) 07:31, 12 June 2025 (UTC)
- @MarcusAbacus, this has even became more convoluted. Ricky Palou as per Inquirer has said quote:
“We take a break to give way to the Men’s World Championship. After that, we will resume our third conference, which will be the Reinforced Conference
- The article implies the 2024–25 All-Filipino Conference was the first, the second one is the Invitation Conference (the final leg of the pre-season tournament PVL on Tour) and the third, the Reinforced. Smh, could the PVL be more clean about its calendar? If you give me the go signal I could just merge the 2025 Premier Volleyball League season to the 2024-25 one. Hariboneagle927 (talk) 06:44, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Hariboneagle927, I was actually going to say that. While there is a chance that the 2025 PVL on Tour is the first conference of the 2025 season, I kinda doubt it. So I feel like for consistency, merging the 2024–25 and 2025 season articles is a possibility. MarcusAbacus (talk) 06:54, 16 June 2025 (UTC)

– I have left a full-length text on this on the PVL talk page. But for the TLDR, after the league confirmed the new calendar, which is aligned with the FIVB calendar, it appears that sources have gotten the memo. Since the new calendar starts with the draft and ends with the Awards Night, I am proposing the following changes:
- 2024–25 season (first season under new calendar)
- 2024 Premier Volleyball League season will be renamed to the 2024–25 Premier Volleyball League season.
- The 2024–25 All-Filipino will be split from the current 2024–25 season article to the new 2024–25 season article.
- Team season articles and related categories will follow a similar principle, but since most of them don't have a 2024 article, new articles will need to be created to house the text from each team's 2024–25 All-Filipino runs.
- 2025–26 season (second season under new calendar)
- What is left of the 2024–25 Premier Volleyball League season will be renamed to the 2025–26 Premier Volleyball League season.
- There was also a 2025 Premier Volleyball League season article before the above merge proposal. So maybe instead of a move, it is merged into that article instead.
- The 2026 Premier Volleyball League season will also merge into the new 2025–26 season article.
- Team season articles and related categories will follow a similar principle.
- The next season would be the 2026–27 Premier Volleyball League season.
This would mean that seasons going forward would match the league's new calendar setup. Every season after 2023 would end with the annual Awards Night, and every season after 2024–25 would start with the draft, so there would be no more confusion in the long run.
