Bids for the host

I just want to delete algeria bids but I don’t want to be associated with vandalism but actually it’s impossible for algeria to organize the 2025 AFCON because they simply don’t have the infrastructure plus the the current CHAN 2022 that’s actually gone wrong with the politisation of the game and the catastrophic organization so I’m really concerned about this can someone answer me ? 46.193.0.74 (talk) 19:27, 14 January 2023 (UTC)

@46.193.0.74 you cant delete the bid. this can only the CAF Future-Trunks (talk) 19:39, 15 January 2023 (UTC)-
No, Algeria can organize even a normal World Cup. Its problem is that it does not have the corruption and politics like your country, which brings prostitutes to CAF officials in hotels, and Algeria has a modern infrastructure with its money, not with the wealth of the occupied Western Sahara and at the expense of the Moroccan people who are oppressed in their livelihood. ~2025-43817-16 (talk) 19:49, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
Excuse you?? Please leave the clearly Algerian biased Morocco hate and lies for other platforms. I think it's common sense to know that Algeria can't host a World Cup in its current state. Pretty much the whole world acknowledges that the Moroccan Sahara is Moroccan territory and Algerias claim of its independence doesn't change anything de jure (or de facto for that matter). I won't reply on other comments made that have absolutely nothing to do with the topic of this article. Im sure there are more than enough nationalist Algerian platforms where you can share your ideas and opinions with fellow minded people. DimaMaghrib34 (talk) 01:09, 8 January 2026 (UTC)

Map of Morocco

Please review the moroccan map used in this subject. The grey area at the bottom belongs to Morocco, as should be part of the whole map of the host country. Moroccan Sahara is an integral part of the Moroccan Kingdom! Thanks! 62.153.130.158 (talk) 16:41, 17 November 2024 (UTC)

Morocco vs. Tanzania refereeing

In every tournament, there are disputes over refereeing decisions, but these are not included in the articles. Therefore, that section should be removed from this article. Declod (talk) 13:36, 7 January 2026 (UTC)

Since there doesn't seem to be any further consequences to that "controversy" (e.g. a court ruling, intervention from CAF or FIFA, or such), I would tend to agree with you. If it has to be kept, perhaps it should be moved to an appropriate section (e.g. the one for the game between Morocco and Tanzania), rather than in a separate section. Morocco win by forfeit

I have another source : Le Maroc déclaré gagnant de la CAN 2025 par la Confédération africaine de football, L'Equipe Manchesterunited1234 (talk) 22:17, 17 March 2026 (UTC)

That's cool brother, CAS will overturn this. I suggest you actually take a look in the rules and see that Senegal did not completely exit the pitch, nor did the referee call off the match. It continued and Senegal won fair and square, CAF is as corrupt as Morocco. Bunch of cheating weasels the entire tournament and now they "won" the title in court. Real classy. I suggest you also do your research into CAS in Switzerland and what they do when crooked stuff like this happens. ~2026-15255-76 (talk) 01:11, 19 March 2026 (UTC)
I invite you to take a look at Wikipedia rules instead. We are not interested in your Original Research. Wikipedia is not a place where you write stuff how you understand them. For now, Morocco is the winner, and if the CAS overturns, we will update it. ~2026-17375-75 (talk) 13:56, 19 March 2026 (UTC)

Revert Champions back to Senegal

Under the IFAB laws of the game, the referee of a match is the only person who can determine the result of the match, and their decision is final. The "CAF Appeal Board" cannot unilaterally change the result of a fixture under the laws of the game. They have no power to "award" a change of result to any team. This change should be reverted, and any discussion of someone other than Senegal being "champion" should be written about in the body of the text. Macktheknifeau (talk) 04:48, 18 March 2026 (UTC)

Reliable sources have stated that Morocco was awarded the title. Unless there are reliable sources (that outweigh the ones already relied upon) backing up your claim, what you're saying is original research and not permitted. jhpratt (talk) 06:10, 18 March 2026 (UTC)
It is not "original research". It is the laws of the game of football. Macktheknifeau (talk) 11:12, 18 March 2026 (UTC)
Which will be upheld by Senegal's appeal to the CAS, if true (a football lawyer on the radio this morning said they expected the appeal to succeed as the referee allowed the game to continue and CAF were therefore retrospectively changing a referee's decision, which is not allowable). However, at the moment Morocco are the champions. Black Kite (talk) 11:18, 18 March 2026 (UTC)
Senegal have never not been the champions. The CAF board have no power in the LOTG to decide the championship after the event was completed by the match officials. At the very least the page should call the subject of "Champion" as being disputed, at this time.Macktheknifeau (talk) 10:47, 20 March 2026 (UTC)
I don’t think you understand the rules correctly. National FA’s and continental federations do have the power to penalize teams with a forfeit loss for example when a non-eligible player was fielded.Tvx1 15:34, 21 March 2026 (UTC)

Currently blocking the truth

the semi protection on this article is blocking from the truth, Senegal won AFCON fair and square, not by the cry baby Moroccans in the court. Morocco should not have any titles due to their walkout against Ghana in 1976. Liygbiygiuhiuh (talk) 17:04, 21 March 2026 (UTC)

  • Many people would agree with you, but we are where we are and we simply report the facts as they are. See the discussion above. Black Kite (talk) 20:18, 21 March 2026 (UTC)

No second place as Senegal was officially disqualified?

I didn't want to change the article, because it would probably cause a lot of angry "supporters" to vandalise it, but shouldn't the second place be empty, maybe with an edited note that says there is no second place (for now) because of the decision of the CAF Appeal Board to disqualify Senegal? The current decision (until a verdict is made by TAS) is that Morocco has won by forfeit, disqualifying Senegal from further games in the tournament, meaning officially they didn't finish and thus are not second in place. What do the other (neutral) fellow editors think? DimaMaghrib34 (talk) 18:09, 28 March 2026 (UTC)

It's different. DQ usually just puts you in last for the round indicated if it isn't for something that affected the whole tournament like an ineligible player or improper benefits, etc. Senegal still got to the finals fairly according to CAF. ~2026-19313-03 (talk) 18:16, 28 March 2026 (UTC)

African map with final results consistently removed

I'd like to have some opinions on this issue. @Liam788 consistently removes the map I made (part of a project to include more maps in AFCON articles) with the results of the 2025 AFCON because it shows the Sahara as part of Morocco. I have chosen this way of depicting the borders because of multiple reasons (not in a particular order):
1. The recently passed UN Resolution 2797 in which it states Morocco's Autonomy Plan (= Sahara's autonomy within the territorial control of Morocco) to be the basis of future discussions.
2. The international recognition of such including the US, Spain, France, the UK, Germany, Portugal, the Netherlands Belgium, the European Union and the majority of states world-wide.
3. The tournament was held in Morocco, which (obviously) sees the region as Moroccan territory.
4. The Sahara is not a FIFA member, nor a CAF member. Other non-FIFA members (like Catalonia, Basque Country, Tibet, Kashmir, Srpska, Kabylia, Northern Cyprus etc.) are not shown on similar football-related maps either.
5. Morocco has de facto control over the region.

Counter-arguments given by the other user (with my reactions) so far are:
1. The UN Resolution doesn't explicitly state that the Sahara is Moroccan territory.

  • The UN doesn't have the legal ability to do that.
  • It clearly calls upon every future discussion taking the Moroccan Autonomy Plan as basis.

2. In this statement made by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding a specific match in an African competition in which a Moroccan team wore a jersey with the Moroccan map including the Sahara, the CAS ruled that this was not inaccordance with the regulations, because the Sahara dispute is still contested and not resolved internationally.

  • This statement is made before the UN Resolution passed.
  • This statement is made following a specific incident in a match with specific regulations in what you're allowed to wear in a match on international level.
  • In my opinion this isn't to any relevance to my arguments addressed, because maps on Wikipedia don't have to adhere to CAF regulations and serve a different purpose.

3. This UN article calls the Sahara a non-self-governing territory.

  • In my opinion, again this isn't to any relevance to my arguments addressed as the status of the Sahara hasn't changed yet.
  • As I have mentioned earlier, there is no consistent line in whether these territories should be shown on these kind of maps or not. A good example of this is Northern Cyprus. Although it is a de facto country, it isn't a FIFA or UEFA member and isn't even shown as separate territory in these kind of maps (example).

4. The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic is a member of the African Union.

  • This doesn't have any influence on the official status of the territory, and therefore no influence on any maps being used for whatever purpose.

Considering these arguments and counter-arguments I hope we can come to a solution. I tried to state the arguments as factual as possible, unless stated otherwise. DimaMaghrib34 (talk) 13:46, 6 April 2026 (UTC)

Hello @DimaMaghrib34
For my part, I have clearly stated my point of view here.
I also invite people to check the discussion on the German page, where some clearly see a political position on your part regarding the map of Morocco that includes Western Sahara. By the way, unlike the example you cited (Catalonia, Basque Country, Tibet, Kashmir, Srpska, Kabylia, Northern Cyprus, etc.), Western Sahara is a NON-autonomous territory, so it should not appear on either the Moroccan side or the Sahrawi Arab Republic side if it ever joins the CAF or FIFA.
Now, I thank you for not notifying me anymore.
Sincerely, Liam788 (talk) 16:20, 6 April 2026 (UTC)

No winner

Hi

See some new sources. , . Panam2014 (talk) 00:47, 7 April 2026 (UTC)

The sources don't confirm there is "no winner" for now. The decision of the Appeal Board is valid until the TAS decides differently. DimaMaghrib34 (talk) 13:45, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
@DimaMaghrib34: CAF have proclaimed no winner. Per Le Monde: « l’attribution de titres, le retrait et/ou la (ré)attribution de médailles, de trophées et de prix en argent, ne relèvent pas de sa compétence » Panam2014 (talk) 14:18, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
Again, that doesn't mean there is "no winner". CAF announced Morocco as the winner following the result from their Appeals Board; that announcement has not yet been rescinded, although CAF have said they will respect the result from CAS. Black Kite (talk) 15:10, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
@Black Kite: again, the source is clear. The winner of the match have been declared by the jury but not the winner of the competition. « l'attribution de titres, le retrait et/ou la (ré)attribution de médailles, de trophées et de prix en argent, ne relèvent pas de sa compétence » is jury's own wording. Panam2014 (talk) 01:25, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
I open a RfC. Panam2014 (talk) 01:26, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
I have removed the {{rfc}} tag. It had a big red error message in it, which has plainly been ignored these past 18+ hours. There is no clear statement, and I don't see why this needs to be a full-blown thirty-day formal WP:RFC. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 21:42, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
@Redrose64: a formal RfC is necessarry since there are no consensus and there a not enough opinions expressed. Also, there Could you repair the template? Furthermore, the only two contributors who offered an opinion either failed to provide arguments based on the content of these sources or offered a different interpretation. What would be the best method for resolving this conflict? Should we use the Wiki project dedicated to sports or football? Panam2014 (talk) 01:38, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
Morocco are the winners of the tournament.
Yes, Senegal have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport - and may have a decent chance of winning.
They will then be 're-awarded' with Champions status and the relevant Wiki pages can then be changed to reflect that.
However, the appeal may fail - so, as it stands, Morocco remain Champions.
Therefore, until then, there really is nothing to discuss!
Woodlandscaley (talk) 10:38, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
@Woodlandscaley and Black Kite: again, Morrocco have been awarded the match, not the competition. By jury's own confession. CAF have deleted the competition's podium. Panam2014 (talk) 00:42, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
And again, the fact that CAF have deleted that from their website still does not equate to "no winner", that would be WP:SYNTH. Black Kite (talk) 09:20, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
@Black Kite: again, the appeal jury said by it own confession that it is not his role to award a competition, only the match. Is is the role of the CAF to award the competition, but it failed to declare a winner. All of this is sourced.
Press sources like Le Monde sait that the 2025 CAN have no winner. So it is not an WP:OR. The OR is writting that Senegal is still the winner. Panam2014 (talk) 10:41, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
We have also Diario AS which said the same. Panam2014 (talk) 10:43, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
Correct. No RfC is necessary, because nothing has yet changed. We cannot declare that there is "no winner" because CAF have not specifically said that. Black Kite (talk) 15:23, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
Nope. We could said that because it is sourced by reliable sources. Panam2014 (talk) 13:42, 20 June 2026 (UTC)

Should Western Sahara be shown as part of Morocco on the map?

I brought up this question because DimaMaghrib34 has asked this question. Western Sahara is a disputed territory, and adding a border between a disputed territory should not be done without consensus. 🦅White-tailed eagleTalk to the eagleStalking eagle 21:30, 14 June 2026 (UTC)

Since no one has reacted on your question and since this topic has been discussed numerous times before in this talk page and on other discussion pages I think we can safely conclude there is currently no objection including the complete and de facto map. DimaMaghrib34 (talk) 16:29, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
Nope. This map is disputed. Panam2014 (talk) 02:26, 30 June 2026 (UTC)
With all due respect, I don't think your opinion is valuable at all since you desperately tried to change the winner of the AFCON to "no winner". DimaMaghrib34 (talk) 23:15, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
Sorry but per sources there are no winner. , , And it is not the subject of this section. Panam2014 (talk) 22:19, 8 July 2026 (UTC)
How is it the de facto map? Morocco de facto controls most of that territory. That aside, the statement "Not a member of CAF" in the key of the image referring to Western Sahara goes beyond the issues with the image itself. There are a million potential ways of denoting the disputed territory, and that's one thing, but the key is effectively an affirmative statement that WS is not part of Morocco, which is a disputed issue.
Especially given the importance of Morocco to this page, I think something needs to change here. Samuelshraga (talk) 10:52, 9 July 2026 (UTC)
Sure @Samuelshraga: WS should be put as disputed territory, not as a undisputed part of Morroco or as not-part of Morroco. Panam2014 (talk) 11:49, 9 July 2026 (UTC)
I don't believe the importance of Morocco to this page should allow for a special exception. Displaying Western Sahara separately is consistent with similar maps: world map of FIFA members, map of CAF members, map of CAF regions, 2023 ACN qualifiers, 2021 ACN qualifiers, 2019 ACN qualifiers, and even member states and territories of the UN. – Nice4What (talk · contribs) 06:01, 14 July 2026 (UTC)

Controversies section (not the final result)

There's currently no section to include the other controversies of the tournament, nor mention of the stealing of goalkeepers towels by ball boys, players and staff. This occurred in the final and other games and led to a $200,000 fine for the Moroccan federation. I understand the need for a lock on this article but this seems like a fairly important aspect of the tournament that hasn't been included in the article. Hey, so, I want to edit the controversy part cause the CAS have just recently announced that they are planning a meeting with the Morrocan Federation and the Senegalese Federation in the 8th of October 2026, so that is why I want to edit that part as It's crucial info for people who go on wikipedia to learn and keep in touch with news. That's why this page is protected! Woodlandscaley (talk) 17:57, 24 July 2026 (UTC)
