Federal Iraq

Is the term “federal Iraq” clear to lay readers? I know it has been used by reputable sources when referring to Iraq excluding Kurdistan Region and I would not even want to get into how the term is in fact misinformation since (ironically), the KR is the only federal thing in Iraq, since the rest of the country is governed centrally. So even though personally I think the term is misleading, according to Wikipedian rules it should be allowed, but what is meant by it here is not clear from the text in the article nor the actual term itself, since all of Iraq is at least constitutionally federal. So I would like for this to be made clear.

Inside Iraq, when referring to Iraq outside of KR, people and the media usually use the term (المحافظات) which means “the governorates” referring to those not formed into a region, or in this case KR. I would personally prefer the text read: “after troops withdrew from several facilities located in central and western Iraq” which is also mentioned in this source . It is much more clear and informative. Donkeykong71818 (talk) 09:07, 23 April 2026 (UTC)

@PawWiki2 since you created the article and are a major contributor, what do you think? Donkeykong71818 (talk) 09:10, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
I agree with this proposal and have changed the section accordingly. PawWiki2 (talk) 11:58, 23 April 2026 (UTC)

Description of suggested change: In the March 12 attack on French troops in Kurdistan, the final toll was one soldier killed and seven wounded (not six). For other sources, please add the Explanatory Source at the end and insert it in the infobox: https://www.trtworld.com/article/b846f9d0d45d (*)

Description of suggested change: The incident in early June that killed one US soldier and one British soldier during a training exercise was not related to the Iran War or an Iranian attack, but to a mission that began before the war against ISIS. Therefore, they should be removed from the infobox. Accurate source: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c232jg2pz2po
