Target

Someone inputted the target in the infoxbox. I don't think that's NPOV. Certainly Israel's POV that the attacks only targeted Hezbollah can be mentioned in prose in the article. However, other sources have contradicted this. NPOV means we can't take sides and we shouldn't give WP:UNDUE weight to a POV that doesn't have that much support in RS.VR (Please ping on reply) 18:48, 8 April 2026 (UTC)

1. Template should be replaced to {{infobox military operation}}
2. Target is more similar to objectives, and is not the same as outcome. It can only be stated by Israel per this case.
TaBaZzz (talk) 19:04, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
I agree, using the civilian attack infobox is likely violating NPOV at this point (so recently to the attacks). Even if scholarly sources say otherwise, its too recent to fully understand the situation with the flood of information. Also having "Hezbollah" as the target is rather vague, especially whenever the article seems to read like a massacre occurred. (Not saying it didn't just saying its curious) Normalman101 (talk) 14:23, 9 April 2026 (UTC)

Hamas?

Someone added "Hamas war crimes" in the see also section. What does this have to do with Hamas? VR (Please ping on reply) 18:51, 8 April 2026 (UTC)

Requested move 8 April 2026

April 8, 2026 Lebanon attacks8 April 2026 Israeli attacks against Lebanon – Per WP:TITLECON with September 2024 Israeli attacks against Lebanon, a similar instance of widespread attacks. Hsnkn (talk) 18:56, 8 April 2026 (UTC)

Comment: I moved this page to "April 8, 2026, Lebanon attacks", adding a comma per MOS:DATECOMMA. I had not noticed this RM discussion because an RM tag has not yet been placed on the page. Since then, the page has been moved to the ambiguous title "2026 Israeli Beirut strikes". –Gluonz talk contribs 19:42, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
I'll add the comma to the req, but I'm also not sure if this should be in a dmy format or not. Hsnkn (talk) 19:45, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
@Hsnkn: I think that either format would be acceptable, but switching to DMY might be desirable in this case because it would be consistent with the 2026 Lebanon war and 2026 Iran war articles and would avoid the MOS:DATECOMMA issue in the title of this page. –Gluonz talk contribs 20:00, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
Changed to dmy. Probably will have to remove the date if the attacks go into the next day. Hsnkn (talk) 20:41, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Comment: To prevent more of what we just saw, I've chosen to fully move protect this page for 24 hours. Feel free to ask me (or any uninvolved admin) to remove this very temporary full move protection, once some consensus has been found as to what page name we're using. Page move warring seems undue, considering we're discussing coverage of actual warring. BusterD (talk) 21:17, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
I'm relaxing the move protection presently (pagename is currently under active discussion here). I can trust everyone to act appropriately on a contentious topic. BusterD (talk) 01:20, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
Support per nom, consistency is key and current title is clunky; even if this specific title doesn't end up being chosen, DMY date format should still be implemented. ZionniThePeruser ( talk with me | read up on me ) 06:50, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Support - Seems inappropriate to not mention the attacking party on the title of this article. Let's follow the same pattern of other articles.--JasonMacker (talk) 04:23, 10 April 2026 (UTC)

Updates

If possible update the article when needed with the information about further strikes occuring today, as per in the 2026 Iran war ceasefire article. Such as the recent attacks that occured at around 22:30 local time. VitoxxMass (talk) 19:41, 8 April 2026 (UTC)

Please remove this line. This line is not stated in the source cited: The actual military gains of the attack are assessed as "limited" by a BBC report.[1] ~2026-21851-25 (talk) 13:34, 9 April 2026 (UTC)

Not done: I was able to verify this claim by accessing page 3 of the cited BBC liveblog, in the entry titled "after a day of horror in Beirut, it's hard to know what Israel's long-term strategy is". The entry states that "the attacks may give Israel some military gain, but this is likely to be limited." Day Creature (talk) 15:43, 9 April 2026 (UTC)

Operation “Eternal Darkness” – What We Know So Far

Approximately 48 hours ago, during Israel’s ongoing military campaign in Lebanon against Hezbollah, reports began to surface of a highly sophisticated operation known as “Eternal Darkness.” The strikes are believed to have taken place within a very narrow time window – approximately 10 minutes – likely during the early morning hours, maximizing operational surprise.

While no full official briefing has been released by the IDF, multiple credible sources indicate that this was a coordinated Israeli strike targeting Hezbollah’s command infrastructure across southern Lebanon and possibly additional locations.

This was not just another strike. It appears to have been a highly coordinated, intelligence-driven decapitation operation aimed at the very heart of the enemy’s command-and-control system.

▪️ The Target The primary objective was the C2 (command and control) network – including hidden and alternative headquarters that were prepared in advance for wartime continuity. Reports indicate that dozens – possibly around 100 – command centers were struck within minutes.

▪️ The Intelligence Breakthrough Such precision suggests a major intelligence achievement:

  • Deep SIGINT penetration
  • HUMINT integration
  • Possible cyber and electronic warfare support

This level of access points to real-time intelligence and the exposure of previously concealed command structures.

▪️ Execution The strikes were carried out in a very short time window – approximately 10 minutes – indicating:

  • Preloaded target banks
  • Rapid sensor-to-shooter loops
  • High-level synchronization across multiple platforms

This resembles a focused “shock and awe” doctrine – but directed specifically at leadership and command nodes.

▪️ What Makes It Different Unlike previous operations that targeted operatives or infrastructure, this operation focused on:

  • Commanders
  • Decision-making hubs
  • System-wide disruption

In other words: not just hitting targets – but collapsing the system.

▪️ Strategic Meaning If the reports are accurate, this operation temporarily blinded and paralyzed the enemy’s ability to:

  • Communicate
  • Coordinate
  • Respond effectively

This is the difference between tactical success and systemic disruption.

▪️ What We Still Don’t Know

  • No official list of those eliminated
  • No confirmed full scope of damage
  • No precise timestamp publicly released
  • No disclosure of the exact methods used

But the pattern is clear.

Bottom line:

“Eternal Darkness” appears to be a precision decapitation strike designed to dismantle the enemy’s command structure within minutes – not hours, not days.

This may be one of the most sophisticated intelligence-driven operations we’ve seen in modern warfare. ~2026-22018-93 (talk) 06:20, 10 April 2026 (UTC)

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want made. Please detail the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Umby 🌕🐶 (talk) 06:41, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
