Result: kept no evidence provided that the article does not meet the GA criteria. —Femke 🐦 (talk) 17:08, 31 January 2023 (UTC)

A GA from 2011. There's a bad amount of uncited material that needs to be cited. Onegreatjoke (talk) 03:59, 22 January 2023 (UTC)

  • As the article contains general references, it only requires inline citations for statements of the five types mentioned in GA criterion 2b, Onegreatjoke. Thus, I think keeping the article works, unless evidence of OR or similar emerges. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 13:26, 24 January 2023 (UTC)

Uncited sections, including entire paragraphs and sections. Min968 (talk) 18:06, 8 January 2026 (UTC)

@Min968 Hello! Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Unfortunately I do not have time to address this because I'm too busy with the featured article review for Augustus. Maybe a month from now I can revisit this? If I don't respond please remind me in February to tackle this, since I was the one who brought this article to Good status in the first place. It has unfortunately declined in quality since then, but was never very good in the first place (my main article on the Song dynasty is in much better shape). • @PericlesofAthens: If you are interested in making the necessary improvements in February, this can stay open until then. Please note below when you are working on it so that others know not to close this. Z1720 (talk) 20:52, 8 January 2026 (UTC)
@Z1720 Thanks! Appreciate that, and will do. I just don't have any feasible time to work on it this month. Cheers. Pericles of AthensTalk 03:23, 9 January 2026 (UTC)
@Min968 Doing some cursory investigation, it appears the article was never that good in the first place per the version for this edit of mine back in 2009, but the current version is worse. Over the years, someone (multiple editors?) pretty much bulldozed a bunch of the research I did and removed citations even from Needham, a reliable secondary source (and at least not a primary source from the 12th century, like the Yingzao Fashi which is cited in various places). This is going to be a major fixer-upper and I'll definitely need until the end of February to rework entire sections, rearrange and reword entire paragraphs, and provide a wide enough variety of cited sources that this article can be considered of Good quality at least. Thanks for your patience! Pericles of AthensTalk 17:12, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
@Min968 Small update: I am doing the initial work to improve this article by making a sandbox version in the meantime. Please have a look whenever you have a chance.
Thus far I've extracted all cited statements that can be salvaged and kept. However, I intend to move any "Meng 2007" content into supplementary/explanatory footnotes, since it is a 12th-century primary source by Meng Yuanlao, edited and republished in 2007 by Yi Yongwen (in Chinese).
Thankfully there are many valuable secondary sources that I can access via Wikipedia Library. For instance, in the sandbox page I have extensively quoted passages from a 2025 journal article by Yang Wantian ("The shaping of cityscape and imagination: Song Dynasty urban pavilions along the streets") that I intend to rewrite/rework as cited statements in the "City and palace" section of the article. Thankfully he has much to say about the Dongjing Meng Hua Lu written by Meng Yuanlao in 1147 and its usefulness as a primary source. I'll make sure to cover it properly in the "literature" section alongside the Yingzao Fashi.
I'll need plenty of time to do all of this, though, since I'm starting a new job and have a rather crazy weekend social life for the next month or so (giant birthday party for a friend, Super Bowl weekend with my friends/family, Valentine's Day weekend with my girlfriend, another weekend where I'm visiting Albany, New York with girlfriend and friends, etc.). Please be merciful and allow me to work on this until March or so! Cheers. Pericles of AthensTalk 01:29, 22 January 2026 (UTC)
@Min968 Update: I'm not done by any means, but I have moved my work-in-progress draft from the sandbox into the actual article. The temple section still needs to be fleshed out, but there is passing information about temples even in the "City and palace" section. Pericles of AthensTalk 22:21, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
@Min968 Surprise, surprise! All statements in the prose body of the article are now cited, a variety of secondary sources are used, two new sections have been added, and the WP:LEAD section has been expanded significantly to cover all of the new material. It's certainly not worthy of nomination as a Featured article, but it certainly reaches the quality level of a Good article. At the very least it now surpasses the bare minimum standards for one.
