Atlantic and Pacific coastlines

It says that "It is the only country in South America with coastlines (and islands) along both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans", but Chile also has coastlines on both oceans, doesn't it? Fangfabio (talk) 13:44, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Could you provide a source for Chile having coastline on the Atlantic Ocean? I don't know of any, including insular and antarctic areas, and it is not mentioned in the Chile article. Mason7512 (talk) 22:35, 9 June 2025 (UTC)
Cape Horn in Chile is the south western border of the Atlantic. So, Chile does have access to the Atlantic. RegentsPark (comment) 00:03, 10 June 2025 (UTC)
Unless the border between the Atlantic and the Pacific is defined as exactly the same as the Chile–Argentina maritime border (which seems very unlikely) then logically at least one of Chile and Argentina must have coastline on both oceans. This "fact" about Colombia should be removed. ThessalonianR (talk) 09:03, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
I've removed it. The source above indicates that Chile does have a border with the Atlantic and the statement in this article was unsourced anyway.RegentsPark (comment) 18:06, 26 August 2025 (UTC)

Haciendas and Encomiendas did not protect indigenous peoples

edit Change "To protect the indigenous peoples, several forms of land ownership and regulation were established by the Spanish colonial authorities: resguardos, encomiendas and haciendas." To "Several new forms of ownership and regulation were established by the Spanish colonial authorities: resguardos, encomiendas and haciendas."

It is little-debated that the encomienda system was exploitative of indigenous peoples, not protective. Colonial Haciendas also commonly used forced labor. Here's a source (used by the colonial hacienda wikipedia) if you'd like - https://bibliotecadigital.univalle.edu.co/server/api/core/bitstreams/5534da1f-b03f-4285-a355-b2db2429b7cc/content ~2025-33420-00 (talk) 16:34, 15 November 2025 (UTC)

Can you please update GDP figures? They are outdated. Geographe Bay (talk) 16:41, 18 February 2026 (UTC)
