Date of Ali Mendjeli extension

The article says station in the north of Ali Mendjeli, opened on 3 June 2019, but one of the three citations - the Railway Gazette - says it entered revenue service on May 3. Unless revenue service is different to an (official) opening? Commander Keane (talk) 10:31, 28 December 2025 (UTC)

Hmmm, that's interesting. The article was published on 4 June, which would correspond closely with the opening date written in the two other citations, (e.g. the International Railway Journal citation) but this reference is the only place that mentions a 'revenue service' date of May 3. I'll have to find some sources from local newspapers, perhaps those will tell the full story. Zach1055 (talk) 12:10, 28 December 2025 (UTC)

I looked at all of the local newspapers I could find, and didn't find anything corroborating with the Railway Gazette article. But then I looked at the French-language Wiki article, and found that it too says the first stage of the extension "has been in operation since May 2019." (rough translation) There is even a citation for this claim, which says more or less the same thing as the French Wikipedia article. Both of these do not give an exact day for the start of operation, although I assume that's where the Railway Gazette comes in? Zach1055 (talk) 12:54, 28 December 2025 (UTC)

Interesting. I searched Proquest in TheWikipediLibary and found: IKRAM GHIOUA -, 2019, Jun 06. Une première tranche de 6 km opérationnelle. L'Expression. (my browser link - this may not work, I have just used it as a cite for service frequency in the article though so the ref template is there).

Using Google Translate it says:

The governor of Constantine, Abdessamie Saïdoune, inaugurated the first section of the Constantine tramway extension last Monday (last Monday would have have ben 3 June 2019)
and later in the article: On May 3rd, speaking on the sidelines of the celebration of World Press Freedom Day, the governor emphasized that "trial testing of this mode of transport should begin at the start of the week in anticipation of its commissioning within about two weeks.".

So 3 June 2019 seems to be correct and the Railway Gazette is mistaken. I suppose Wikipedia:When sources are wrong applies and hidden comment could be added in case someone gets confused in the future. Commander Keane (talk) 23:11, 28 December 2025 (UTC)

In my opinion, I think the incorrect reference should just be completely removed and replaced by the one you put. Adding a footnote/comment, to me at least, feels like unnecessarily complicating things for the average reader.

(Note: I actually did look through the L'Expression website in my aforementioned search, but I was actually looking at the PDF archives of physical newspapers, not online articles. Perhaps that's why I didn't find anything.) Zach1055 (talk) 10:10, 29 December 2025 (UTC)

A couple of unsourced statements. It is possible that more trams may be transferred in the future, due to the high demand of ridership on the Algiers tramway. is an example.
FYI, I usually consider a statement unsourced if there are no inline citations at the end of a paragraph at least, WP:AGF that claims inside paragraphs are supported by citations in other parts of the paragraph.

Lead

The lead should summarize all content in the article. Some sections aren't even mentioned once.
Extremely confusing to say "airport" here, just link to Mohamed Boudiaf International Airport without pipelinking
(Infobox) Spell out "overhead line" instead of OHLE

History

You sure that there weren't any more wikipedia articles (not limited to the enwiki) to link to? Something like "Entreprise Métro d'Alger" seems to have frwiki articles.
In addition, locals also opposed the construction of the tramway due to the disruption it would bring to the city's road network. - I'm assuming it is because the trams would simply block the cars' path and narrow the roads, right? Maybe clarify this part a bit more?

WP:LEADCITE - Because the lead usually repeats information that is in the body, editors should balance the desire to avoid redundant citations in the lead with the desire to aid readers in locating sources for challengeable material. Although the presence of citations in the lead is neither required in every article nor prohibited in any article, there is no exception to citation requirements specific to leads.
