Thank you for your help @ Teahouse. I was bold and made a topic there.
Please allow a question: Would the page Wikiversity:Chess/Board Configurations be allowed on Wikipedia? Mind you that it is ALL WP:OR. I could rework it maybe but the I need someeone to help me. Thanks again. Cheers Harold Foppele (talk) 16:39, 9 November 2025 (UTC)
Hi Harold Foppele. Indeed Wikipedia:Original research applies. That subject could only be incorporated into Wikipedia if it has been published by a reliable source. There is Shannon number and if there was an equivalent article or section (I haven't looked) about board configurations, you could look up sources and add that information to that location. If the published sources aligned with your Wikiversity findings you would be effectively reworking them into Wikipedia.
The SSDs in a cargo ships was an interesting, if scary, scenario to illustrate combinations. Recently I discovered the number of combinations in a deck of cards and I was wondering if every person on earth (8 billion?) could shuffle a deck perfectly and uniquely in one minute, how many minutes would it take for a duplicate deck to be made. Maybe there is a Wikipedia article on historical ways large numbers have been communicated to the public? Commander Keane (talk) 16:57, 9 November 2025 (UTC)
The page has more then one meaning:) First figure out how large the number could be (max. 13^64), second to make such a number understandable, third start shrinking it to electrons and at last shrinking it to Quantum Computing.
Maybe if link numbers to ref's? Do i need to prove 13^64? Like the #of tons/vessel? #of electrons/Earth ect?
As for your question: even with every human producing a unique different shuffle every minute, you’d need on the order of 10^52 years to run out of unique 52-card decks. If shuffles are random, a duplicate is appears sooner but still in the magnitude of 10^18 years, still far longer than the age of the universe. Would you like to see the calculations? (I am a freak with numbers) Cheers Harold Foppele (talk) 17:22, 9 November 2025 (UTC)
Harold Foppele: I like your enthusiasm, but Wikipedia can only report on stuff. I think you want to be creative, share your ideas, teach, and expand minds - Wikiversity is better suited to that. The way to write an article is to gather all of the sources and summarise what they say. It is not a case of proving 13^64 (or #tons/vessel) but finding sources that discuss the topic and summarising what they say.
About the deck of cards: what about if every person in the world could shuffle a deck at at 6.2 GHz (apparently the highest boost clock rate on a production processor). Can you work some numbers so duplicate occurrence is something conceivable? I also wasn't sure how random is defined. I should find a Wikipedia article to explain it, but for now I must sleep. Commander Keane (talk) 17:39, 9 November 2025 (UTC)
At 6.2 GHz per person with 8 billion people, a duplicate deck becomes likely (≈50% chance) after ~6.8 million years. To actually generate every possible deck even once would take ~5.2×10⁴⁰ years utterly impossible.
So yes: pushing everyone to 6.2 GHz drops the duplicate-timescale from huge (with one shuffle/minute) down to millions of years. Remember this 10^71 / 1 million comes to 10^65 and is still unimaginable. Unless you use "Harolds Trick" 😄😄 Pleasant dreams. Harold Foppele (talk) 18:05, 9 November 2025 (UTC)
Hiya, how do I cite sources properly? Can I site YouTube as a source, if from an official company, or does it have to be a news source? --Solaxa (talk) 19:12, 14 November 2025 (UTC)
Hi Solaxa. I see you have added a citation, so I can see you know how to get the technical things right!
YouTube can be used for minor information if it is an official Youtube channel (definitely not a regular Youtuber's channel though), this is discussed at WP:ABOUTSELF. You will find that nearly all information that is of interest to Wikipedia will be published in a reliable source eventually. I would guess that on 27 November 2025 there will be coverage on Synthesizer V Studio 2 and those sources will end up replacing your citation. Wikipedia articles evolve, and that is not a bad thing:-) Commander Keane (talk) 04:03, 15 November 2025 (UTC)
Question from Arinteriors2 (10:33, 16 November 2025)
Our company is known as a top company which is running since 2002. We started from Uttar Pradesh, now I am from Bengaluru. At least 10 to 12 people are working regularly with the company. As I want to tell you, we mostly do interior work which includes offices, independent houses, apartment work, small shops, big shops and showrooms in which everyone also does interior design. --Arinteriors2 (talk) 10:33, 16 November 2025 (UTC)
@Arinteriors2: I am not sure what your question is but I will give you the advice do not edit Wikipedia in your own interests, or in the interests of your external relationships. Paid editing must be disclosed.
If your intent was for an article on your company, I thoroughly recommend patiently waiting for someone else to write it. Wikipedia articles need to meet "notability", see Wikipedia:Notability.
You are more than welcome to edit other articles, we have millions. Everything from astronomy to Transport in Bengaluru. Commander Keane (talk) 11:16, 16 November 2025 (UTC)

Question from Sally Widdershins (11:31, 18 November 2025)
Hi Commander-
I see lots of help around here, but most of it is way over my head at this point. (I looked up "Dab", disambiguation page, right?)
I'm undereducated but over-curious; I meander broadly in the Wiki-wilds. Errors niggle me, so I have newly registered and am assigned you as my mentor. Glory be! I have the impression you're a biological entity, not a chat bot?
I just wanted to say Hello- I will try not to be a pest.
On my user page I see that any edits will appear, but I am wondering about Talk Topics added? Today on article East Florida (the British colony of short existence) I noted an erroneous link to be undo-ed. Undid? Undone? and added the topic.
I have perused a few talk pages, and I worry that if I edit something, some bot will come along and undo me.
Cooperatively yours, Sally Widdershins --Sally Widdershins (talk) 11:31, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
Hi Sally Widdershins! Yes I am human:-)
I think fixing that John Tobler link in East Florida could be a great first edit for you to make. There is a culture of fix it yourself around here. From the article's Media section, click [edit], then select Tobler's blue link. From there, you can either Edit the link to something like John Tobler (author), or if you think the author is highly unlikely to require a Wikipedia article, remove the link. This is an application of disambiguation.
That method is the VisualEditor. Alternatively you could click [edit source] and change the wikimarkup to [[John Tobler (author)|John Tobler]]. Either way it will look like John Tobler; a red link ready for someone to create a new article. I think my explanation is as clear as mud but the documentation at Help:Introduction_to_editing_with_VisualEditor/3 doesn't seem much better. Just ask me if needed.
You can't break anything on Wikipedia and should not live in fear of bots. An amusing story is that when the first anti-vandalism bot was introduced back in about 2009 it reverted (essentially undid-ited) Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales three times for a perfectly good edit. He was confused:-P. I see below you have figured out that any contributions you make, including to articles or talk pages, will be recorded in your user contributions. Commander Keane (talk) 12:35, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
Thanks! It took me a minute to recognize the red chain thing as "remove link" and not "report mental health concern" but mission accomplished. Sally Widdershins (talk) 07:36, 19 November 2025 (UTC)

Studying revision histories.
I've been looking at the history of Sonam Kapoor article. Well that's an education. I'm learning about bots and how some people (210.49.14.130) seem to think this is Facebook? I'll have to print a cheat sheet for where all the different kinds of brackets go and the lingo. "Revert vandalism". And I managed to put a link in this message:-) Sally Widdershins (talk) 08:25, 19 November 2025 (UTC)
How are you defining bots? They will typically "bot" in their username. Otherwise, human editors will frequently use gadgets or tools to easily revert vandalism. These tools will generate edit summaries like "Reverted 2 edits by ..." or "Restored revision 1317943504 by ...".
Dude: you rock! Sally Widdershins (talk) 10:21, 19 November 2025 (UTC)
Hollingsworth v Perry edited
Hey Coach- can you let me know if my nitpicking was appropriate? The third sentence began with a pronoun but referred to the person in the first sentence, not the person in the adjacent second sentence. Sally Widdershins (talk) 16:22, 19 November 2025 (UTC)
@Sally Widdershins: it looks good to me. If it makes sense to you, it is probably an improvement, and a welcome edit. Be bold is our motto! If you are wrong or overstep, it is trivial for someone to undo.
By the way, if you want a challenge, next time you refer to a specific edit like you did with Hollingsworth v. Perry, you can link to it in the discussion - this makes it easier for others to see the exact change you are talking about. It is called a diff.
You visit the edit history of an article, use the radio buttons to select the modification period (it can be more than one edit), display the diff, and copy the url.
Then in a discussion you insert an external link, using that url and some relevant display text. Clear as mud? An example: your recent edit. Tada. Commander Keane (talk) 01:18, 20 November 2025 (UTC)
Question from Gulapa Sathish (07:23, 24 November 2025)
Hello! how to edit the page? --Gulapa Sathish (talk) 07:23, 24 November 2025 (UTC)

Mobile editing
I saw your comment at Village Pump (WMF). I figured I'd reply here because my observations are somewhat tangential, but User:Clovermoss/Mobile editing is mostly focused on the capabilities and limitations of the app. I believe you might be interested based off what you said. Clovermoss🍀(talk) 11:37, 28 November 2025 (UTC)
Thanks. It seems the app is still underdeveloped. I know I was feeding into the negative culture of bashing the WMF. The resource wastage, and then the infamous fundraising onslaught to keep up with it, is getting to me. The WMF needs to lean on the community, and the community needs to avoid leaning on the WMF. Commander Keane (talk) 09:31, 29 November 2025 (UTC)
I think a lot of people have felt jaded over time, even if I think there's a reason for some hope. But that trust is hard to rebuild and I think people from the community are skeptical for very good reasons. I know I'm much more intertwined with WMF-related things than I used to be a few years ago, but I haven't lost that part of me that cares. I think the average WMF employee cares too (lots of people applying for these jobs are people trying to make a difference), although I think there's some internal issues preventing certain things from being prioritized like they should. That disconnect I reference. You might be interested in this petition, by the way. Feel free to not sign it if it doesn't align with your values. Clovermoss🍀(talk) 11:02, 29 November 2025 (UTC)
I read the petition previously. It opens with the Board Candidate removals which seemed like an egregious misstep by the WMF at first, but (in my opinion) it turns out one candidate was supporting anti-semitic nonsense on social media and the other was trying to flex a university connection that would break the NDA (not that WMF handled that removal well, or that there should be secrets anyway).
I support the petition, but it is very general and meh, I am jaded:-P. I thought the Board used to have four community members, 4 bean counters and Jimbo Wales, but that may have changed. In that scenario, we should all be writing our congressperson (ie commuinty board member) and hoping Jimbo is reasonable (which I think he is). A member-based Foundation would be better still.
I guess the whole problem that brought sparked my Village Pump comments is about communication (this does not mean hire more communications specialists!). If the WMF said 5 years ago that they are targeting readers and the app is going to be a part of that, I would not have been surprised by their VP thread to push it to mobile web visitors. It may be a good strategy, but being in the dark isn't nice - perhaps I would have done some testing and provided feedback, fortunately you already have.
It must be hellish to be a WMF employee at times, with the community's approval rating as low as it is. I will try to be kinder and more constructive. I don't treat municipal workers in the real world that way, but I don't have such a deep understanding of their industry and thus I don't comprehend their disturbing and wasteful activities.
Just the other day I thought that even the rebooted Community Wishlist is adversarial. If their wish is to have more money, or readers, or a higher click through rate on donation banners they should be open and put that in the Wishlist. It should not be WMF versus Community. Your petition is also a wish and could go in a real Wishlist - I imagine you found the petition process rather odd and I wonder how many Spanish/French/German/Japanese/etc editors have read it.
Because you seem like a mover and shaker I will give you my technical strategic goals for the WMF. We (I don't consider Wikipedia an entity) are in the business of knowledge, and these days people are getting that from Google search (there was the unfinished WMF Knowledge Engine), Q&A sites and video content - all of which scream out for wiki-style collaboration. Wikipedia has lost its supreme usefulness, and it is time to expand while the money is still flowing in (I know I dream of new knowledge avenues and they are not free to build, but neither are apps). Abstract Wikipedia is a bold move and I hope that works out. Commander Keane (talk) 10:30, 2 December 2025 (UTC)

Hello, I would appreciate your feedback/guidance regarding my attempt to add a low-resolution logo to a Wikipedia article under fair use: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Harmony_patch.png Is it fine like this? Or is there something that should be fixed? Thank you for your time.--Spaaaaaaace (talk) 14:28, 29 November 2025 (UTC)

Question from Heddnoel (20:56, 3 December 2025)
Hello,
I wanted to write an article about a writer. He is not on wiki. How do I do that? --Heddnoel (talk) 20:56, 3 December 2025 (UTC)
Hi Heddnoel.
Plunging into creating a new article on Wikipedia is the most difficult task there is! If you wanted to build a house or a car, would you start by trying to build a house or a car, or would you first learn the essential skills and knowledge?
I would recommend trying to edit current articles, learning how to insert citations and getting familiar with editing. Also, take a look at Wikipedia considers a "noteable" writer (link) for inclusion.
I am happy to discuss further. What is the name of the writer, and what sources do you have to help you write the article? Commander Keane (talk) 04:07, 4 December 2025 (UTC)
Question from Noz Davoir (21:24, 3 December 2025)
Hello!
I am quite new to proper editing. How can I make the alternative transliteration “Xilina Spathia” redirect to Xylina Spathia? Both are widely used (spotify etc.) but it’d be very helpful if you could instruct me on redirects!
Thank you,
N --Noz Davoir (talk) 21:24, 3 December 2025 (UTC)
Hi Noz Davoir. The link Xilina Spathia has actually redirected to Xylina Spathia since 2008. When you click on the Xilina Spathia on your phone, it should take you to the article and show a little popup at the bottom saying "Redirected from...".
Generally speaking, Wikipedia:Redirect#How to make a redirect explains the technical process. Because you are trying to create a new Wikipedia page you may be restricted from doing this as your account is too new. Commander Keane (talk) 04:17, 4 December 2025 (UTC)
Oh that makes sense thanks very much! Noz Davoir (talk) 07:02, 4 December 2025 (UTC)
Question from Noz Davoir (07:38, 5 December 2025)
Hey again,
When filling out bot-suggested links, it often spots academic establishments in the citations at the end. Should these get a link if they are in the references or no?
However, I could not find guidance on wikilinks in citations.
I looked at two recent featured articles (Flag_of_Hong_Kong and SMS_Pommern) and they only seem to wikilink the publication, not the publisher (which I assume is the academic establishmet in your question).
If you re not sure, then I would not link them.
If you have a specific example, you could ask on Wikipedia:Help desk to get an answer. It could be interesting, if these links are unwanted we can advise the software developers to avoid those suggestions. Commander Keane (talk) 08:01, 5 December 2025 (UTC)
Question from Noz Davoir (21:23, 9 December 2025)
Hi once more! How does one flag an article as having been made by someone closely connected to the article’s subject? --Noz Davoir (talk) 21:23, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
This will be a conflict of interest. I will look at WP:COI.
It mentions noticeboards - you may want to post there for a full investigation.
And it mentions placing "{{COI}}" at the top of the article. You can do that by opening Source editor (wikitext) and literally placing that at the top.
You have been using Visual editor. I had a quick look and can't see a way to insert a template (that is what the curly brackets are doing) using that editor.
If you provide a link I am happy to take a look. Commander Keane (talk) 01:29, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
Ok, it’s the article on Jascha Spivakovsky. The page seems to be mostly made, edited and referenced by a user named Edenspiva. The overall tone is rather glorifying/peacockish, but the creator may be closely linked to this pianist. Noz Davoir (talk) 12:04, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
Hi Noz Davoir. I have modified your most recent comment here and hidden the old edit to avoid any doxxing issue. I know it wasn't intentional, but better to be on the safe side by not revealing personal information. Honestly, no sweat.
I would say your guess about the COI is correct, but User:Edenspiva hasn't edited since 2018 and there are warnings on their talk page from back then. At this stage, we can try and clean up the article (unless it is unsalvagable).
On mobile, if you click the drop down issues box at the top of the article it says:
This article may be unbalanced towards certain viewpoints. (December 2025)
This article contains wording that promotes the subject in a subjective manner without imparting real information. (December 2025)
This article needs additional citations for verification. (December 2025)
Which I think covers the issues.
As a side note, feel free to use wikilinks in talk page discussions like this (it is the chain link icon when you create a new message) - just so it is easy for other editors to quickly get to the page you are talking about.:-) I will go with... Jascha Spivakovsky (as an example). Commander Keane (talk) 12:45, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
Oh excellent thanks for your help! Noz Davoir (talk) 15:14, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
Question from Rabbanyism (13:06, 11 December 2025)
hello sir its a pleasure to have you,
can you kindly give a me short tutorial about wikipedia post publishing and sharing my studies on wikipedia --Rabbanyism (talk) 13:06, 11 December 2025 (UTC)
Hi Rabbanyism, that is a very broad question! I am not sure what "post publishing" means, but Wikipedia articles are built by editors using reliable sources to write content.
For example I have three books about an article and I am going to take notes and add information to expand the content.
You cannot really share your studies if they are original research - you can only use existing, well-regarded sources. However, you can use your expertise from your studies to help you find sources and write content. For example a tunnel engineer could find sources to write about a tunnel article in Wikipedia (although anyone is welcome to edit).
Question from Essy Márquez (19:25, 11 December 2025)
hello, how do i create the citation --Essy Márquez (talk) 19:25, 11 December 2025 (UTC)
Hi Essy Márquez. The easiest way is to use the VisualEditor (the regular edit button, not source).
Help:VisualEditor#Adding_a_new_reference tries to explain it. You click on the Cite. If you have the url (from an online newspaper article or link to a book) you can put it in the automatic box and the system will try to generate the citation template for you. Otherwise, you can use the Manual tab in Cite and put the information about the source in there.
Good luck, and ask me specific followup questions if you get stuck. Commander Keane (talk) 00:59, 12 December 2025 (UTC)

Hello, I created an edit for a page and submitted and now wondering how long that review takes before the article is published --GaryWarren1974 (talk) 13:08, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
The process as Wikipedia:Articles_for_creation will walk you through the the steps to create a draft (in the Draft namespace) and submit if for review. It can one take day for an obviously acceptable article, or months for one where the sourcing and notability is unclear.
However, importantly, you will need to provide reliable sources for where all of the information came from. Commander Keane (talk) 14:30, 16 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from GIANT HERO (17:58, 22 December 2025)
Hi there, I see that very strangely my boss at Giant Hero, despite his stature, has no real Wiki page apart from something in Germany, written in German. It seems as if it would make sense to show the world information about his long career. How do I start to build a Wiki presence for him? --GIANT HERO (talk) 17:58, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
See WP:COI. You simply don't write about your boss. Also, I couldn't find anything about a company "Giant Hero".
If your username is the company name it cannot be used, per Wikipedia:Username_policy#Usernames_implying_shared_use (we need an individual to release copyright on their edits, not a group. Also it may be promotional.). Given you don't have any edits, it would be easier to create a new account rather than get the username changed. If your username is just a nickname of yours, then that should be okay. Commander Keane (talk) 00:29, 23 December 2025 (UTC)
Question from Elnur Amirov on User:Elnur Amirov (20:43, 22 December 2025)
Hello mentor, could you please advise how to publish info on wikipedia? Thanks for help and support. --Elnur Amirov (talk) 20:43, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
Hi @Elnur Amirov, I assume this is about Draft:Elnur Amirov. You should have read Help:Your first article and come across WP:COI (never write an article about yourself) and Wikipedia:Notability (academics) (we need reliable sources discussing the life of a person, we don't include every person because we need to be able to verify all of the information from reliable sources).
I don't see much hope for your draft and it has been rejected on the grounds of sourcing. If Elnur Amirov is suitable for a Wikipedia article I imagine someone will gather all of the sources (newspaper articles, profiles in magazines, biographies etc) and write an article one day. Question from Greatdivision (12:56, 3 January 2026)
Hi,
I have found an item that is incorrect. can I make an addition with the correction. --Greatdivision (talk) 12:56, 3 January 2026 (UTC)
Hi Greatdivision.
The philosophy behind Wikipedia is that anyone can edit, and if there is an error you should correct it.
If it could be controversial you can start a discussion on the Talk page of the article explaining your perspective.
As all information should be based on reliable sources, be sure to cite the ones you are basing your correction on.
I happy to discuss a specific item in an article. Commander Keane (talk) 22:57, 3 January 2026 (UTC)

Hello! If I wanted to edit more articles on a certain topic not included in "Select topics", is there any way to do that? --Jan Kijete (talk) 12:04, 4 January 2026 (UTC)
Hi Jan Kijete. I am trying to think where you have seen "Select topics" exactly.
Or you can browse through categories. For example at the bottom of Gustav Karl Theodor Friedrich Baermann there are categories including 1877 births | 1950 deaths | German public health doctors | Physicians from Wrocław | ...
Thank you for answering my question. To clarify, I found it on my user homepage. I don't need any more help at the moment. --Jan Kijete (talk) 13:31, 4 January 2026 (UTC)

@LutherKing 001: it says the article (Draft:David Nwokorie) is probably written by a LLM (like ChatGPT or Claude etc), we don't have time to deal with that approach and delete readily. LLM use not allowed.
Incidentally, all but one of the sources (Premier News) is indicating as unreliable to me. You need reliable sources to write an article. Thoroughly read WP:NBIO.
Writing an article from scratch is the hardest thing to do in Wikipedia. I suggest spending six months of consistent editing to get the hang of policies, guidelines and content expectations. Commander Keane (talk) 14:26, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
edit in Freud's seduction theory
My edit was adding two references to Freud's seduction theory but it failed to register. Szwaldyher (talk) 14:27, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
Hi Szwaldyher, when I look at the page history for Freud's seduction theory I can see your edit and it is currently live - you have put two plain text Lothane listings at the top.
Perhaps you wanted to add those sources down in the Further reading section?
Question from Michaelchowmankin (01:52, 10 January 2026)
Hi, I am Michael Chow Man Kin, 周文健,the Hong Kong actor. It seems I am not able to add a photo of myself of my Wikipedia website. How can I forward my recent photo? --Michaelchowmankin (talk) 01:52, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
Hi Michaelchowmankin.
See Wikipedia:A picture of you#Ways to submit photos. There is an email, but the photographer will own the copyright so they must be the one to do that. Or you could ask them and post on social media saying:
We do take copyright seriously and free licensing is required. Photos are added to our image repository Wikimedia Commons.
Incidentally, I assume your article is Michael Chow (actor). Many years ago one of my favourite Australian TV stations (SBS) aired Police Story, it was the first film I saw recorded in Cantonese, dubbed in Mandarin (I guess that is copy they had) and that I could follow along reading the subtitles in English. SBS have an online service and I currently have Police Story favourited so a I can watch it again. I see they have Police Story 2 also available, so I will watch that one too and look out for you as CID Cop:-). Commander Keane (talk) 02:43, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
Question from JohnDorran (09:41, 10 January 2026)
Hello Commander Keane.
Thank you for mentoring on Wikipedia.
As part of my research, I searched for the term "Moccasin Approach" in Wikipedia and found that it is not shown/listed in Wikipedia. I was surprised by this and wish to know if I would be permitted to create a page on the term and add some history and context to the term.
I appreciate that it would need to be checked/verified, and I would welcome that rigour.
I would be most grateful to receive your guidance on this matter.
Thank you.
JD --JohnDorran (talk) 09:41, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
@JohnDorran, this was actually asked by the trademark holder a few years ago: see Teahouse thread, it mentions WP:NEOLOGISM.
You are going to need secondary, independent, reliable sources to write the article. Not everything gets an article, this is covered in Wikipedia: Notability.
What sources have you got for Mocassin Approach? Can this concept fit in another Wikipedia article (a redirect can be created)?
Hello, and thank you for your guidance, Commander Keane.
The only sources are interviews with people who have been through leadership and management programmes that used the term, the master's degree thesis from Middlesex University (by the trademark holder), and various correspondence.
It would appear that the term Moccasin Approach® does not yet qualify for entry on Wikipedia. I shall contact the trademark holder and see if he can assist me.
Thank you again.
Regards

Question from Yuchidchiu (16:57, 15 January 2026)
Hi! Thank you for being my mentor in this process. I am trying to edit my boss's page at work. I tried editing some of her personal information (e.g. birthday and marital status), but they got rejected. What kind of proof would you require for both of those pieces of information, especially if they wouldn't be published anywhere? Thank you so much! --Yuchidchiu (talk) 16:57, 15 January 2026 (UTC)
As it says there, you are strongly advised not to edit your boss's page. However, you can make suggestions on the talk page and another editor may edit for you. I did update the marriage info with a date qualifier that indicates it may not be current.
Question from Allanlikesdevo (17:44, 16 January 2026)
Hello!! I'm an absolute beginner in editing Wikipedia--how do you draft a page? Thanks in advance. --Allanlikesdevo (talk) 17:44, 16 January 2026 (UTC)
Hi Allanlikesdevo. I see you have found out and created Draft:99math:-). Your major task now is to find sources that show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject that are published, reliable, secondary and independent. Commander Keane (talk) 01:59, 17 January 2026 (UTC)
Question from Jsackley (22:25, 16 January 2026)
Hello
I am working on the draft Betty Lee Ongley.
Can you advise if there is another classification for articles like this draft (Betty Lee Ongley) that is more appropriate? I am getting feedback that this person is not "notable" which is a big surprise to the people in the community, but perhaps there is another section for write-ups on persons with accomplishments that Wiki deems "not notable." I am in over my head on this, I think. Also, I see comments that my sources are not independent, but every single one is totally independent of the subject so I do not understand where that view is coming from. I also received a comment about copyrighted work. All work was original. So that was confusing too. And I will work on the minor link issues which I thought were okay but apparently there is a problem. Any insights are appreciated. --Jan Sackley (talk) 22:25, 16 January 2026 (UTC)
I am getting feedback that this person is not "notable"
The acceptance of the draft does come down to "notability". The previous reviewers were not satisfied. This is a Wikipedia term and not used in the traditional sense. You can read about it at Wikipedia:Notability and Notability (people). Wikipedia wants reliable, secondary, independent sources (typically newspapers/books for an article like this, but I see a TV news service on the article which may be okay) to say something significant about the person. Not just a passing mention.
Your sources are independent, you are reading a pre-made response that encapsulates all of the requirements: show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (my emphasis).
is another classification for articles like this draft (Betty Lee Ongley) that is more appropriate?
There isn't a second section Wikipedia for subjects that do not meet the notability bar. There may be other websites. There is Wikidata that can hold stats like Major of Portage 1973 -??
also received a comment about copyrighted work.
It was most recently rejected for copyright violation, but that was a mistake and no longer a consideration.
Through my The Wikipedia Libary subscription I had a look at a newspaper archive archive. If I found anything substantial, like a write up about Ongley after her 1973 election talking about her background and characteristics, or an article about most her most recent community contribution and a wrap up of her life's contributions I would have added to the draft and published it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately I only found passing mentions about her election or Onlgey being quoted for something that did not discuss her biography. The archive may not be complete though.
I will work on the minor link issues
It is not the biggest concern here.
Apart from the TV news clips (I haven’t watched them yet, I assume there are substantial), can you find anything else with significant coverage? Commander Keane (talk) 01:49, 17 January 2026 (UTC)
All the sources are independent and mostly from the local paper and electronic newspaper. Luckily another article just appeared this week so I will add another reference to it.

Thank you again for all of your helpful assistance in getting this entry published. I am very grateful. Question: Early on I was advised that I could not include "personal" information on the subject such as the name of her spouse, how many kids, etc. Is that correct for a living subject? I had it in the early drafts and was required to remove it for further consideration. Jan Sackley (talk) 00:12, 23 January 2026 (UTC)
Hi Jsackley. The policy is at WP:BLP. We are very careful about sourcing for a living person, or their living relatives, so you will need the information to be relevant and widely available in reliable sources. Commander Keane (talk) 00:23, 23 January 2026 (UTC)

@CostalCal: Can you take another look? What original research? What opinions? What non-neutrality? What non-encyclopedic manner (apart from the dot pints in the lead, addd by a new user, easily corrected)? The purpose of AfC evaluation is If this article were nominated for deletion at WP:AFD, would it be likely to survive? You are certain that a 130 year old building with all of the independent, reliable, secondary sources used in the references section is not going to survive AfD? I didn't start the draft, I just cleaned it up. I have been editing Wikipedia for 20 years and if this article doesn't belong in Wikipedia it is a sad time. Commander Keane (talk) 23:07, 12 February 2026 (UTC)
I was on the verge of accepting this article. I know that it's very frustrating to have it denied.
However, I denied the pasage, as it does not merit a standalone article because much of the content relies on primary or local sources, reads in a detailed and occasionally promotional narrative style rather than a neutral encyclopedic summary, overlaps with existing coverage (such as Swindon Victorian Turkish Baths), and lacks sufficient independent, secondary sourcing to clearly establish distinct notability. CostalCal (talk) 01:47, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
"much of the content relies on primary or local sources" - well ignore that content (do you think 90%, 50%, 2%?) and evaluate the other sources. Extra content is not a valid reason for deletion.
"reads in a detailed and occasionally promotional narrative style rather than a neutral encyclopedic summary" - Wikipedia includes details. Style is not a reason for deletion. It can be fixed (the encyclopedia anyone can edit). What sort of crippling neutral point of view exists? I don't see one.
"overlaps with existing coverage (such as Swindon Victorian Turkish Baths)", so you are proposing a merge.
"lacks sufficient independent, secondary sourcing to clearly establish distinct notability" - so it is not an essay issue, but sourcing? You had a look at the Swindon Advertiser, the BBC article, the Shifrin book, the Cattell & Falconer book, the 1906 Abingdon Free Press...
<meh, I give up writing this, a merge may be suitable - figure it out at AfD>
Please try to write suitable declines in the future. I will publish the draft. Commander Keane (talk) 02:18, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
I'm sorry that if I made you feel bad. Arguing to me shows that you're not ready to give up the draft. So don't give up! CostalCal (talk) 03:35, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

Fishy maps
Dear Commander,
The article Poecilia vandepolli has passed its FA nomination in no small part thanks to the wonderful maplink you made for it. The issue of the previous map was even brought up during the review! I am currently working on another fishy article, Poecilia velifera. If you would create a maplink for this one too, I would be very much obliged. Of course, if you are busy or no longer enjoy making these, I can try to find another victim at MapLab :D Surtsicna (talk) 07:31, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
Hi Surtsicna! I am glad the article got promoted. It is written to engage and is an enjoyable read, far superior to most of content around here. For the new map, go ahead and post on the graphics lab. If there are no takers and the specification is clear I can take care of it at a later stage:-). Thank you! Will do. Happy editing! Surtsicna (talk) 08:07, 23 March 2026 (UTC)

Fishy maps 2
Continuing from #Fishy maps: nobody was interested in making one for two months and the request got archived! As I approach the FA nomination for Poecilia velifera, it seems that you are my last hope for a map 🥺 I had two ideas:
or a plain map showing only the natural distribution of P. velifera with an insert showing introduced populations around the world.
The distribution maps linked above are from Robert Miller's Freshwater fishes of México. I do not have a map source for the introduced populations. That information and citations are in Poecilia_velifera#Range.
A map would be fantastic but it is not an FA requirement, so please do not feel any pressure. If you do decide to make one, feel free to choose whichever option you think is more fun to make. Cheers! Surtsicna (talk) 23:42, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
Hello Surtsicna, great to hear from you! I am more of a maplink kinda editor, so I have gone for bullet point option number one. Much like last time, I am just lining up (and scaling, rotating) the maps in your imgur links with OpenStreetMap and then picking the points. They don't line up exactly, so there is some error and my map is for general information (Americas fish explores beware). The data is at:
I have used the raw mapframe syntax (embedded below), I did not feel like battling with {{maplink}}: Commander Keane (talk) 10:05, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
I, Commander Keane, have edited this post to hide the mapframe display for clarity. It is now a maplink.
Follow up. I came across a book, online via my State Library, Freshwater Fishes of North America: Volume 2: Characidae to Poeciliidae by Warren et al. To the be honest the online reader interface was cluncky and couldn't find anything about P. velifera, but I was interested to not see it in the references in Poecilia velifera. Commander Keane (talk) 10:22, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
Oh, dear, I did not expect you to be so quick! GA nomination also passed today and now I have no more excuses to delay the FA nomination 🫣 The map looks truly lovely. Warren et al. do mention P. velifera, but only in passing and when comparing it with P. latipinna, to which they dedicate far more attention. Thanks a lot for helping out once again! Surtsicna (talk) 11:56, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
I might be a little slow, but I do not know how to add a caption. Surtsicna (talk) 12:44, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
Apologies Surtsicna. When I said I did not feel like battling with {{maplink}}, it meant it kinda works, but the mapframe code is raw and I have just realised you cannot add a caption. I unfairly used used to fear {{maplink}} due to not understanding it, but I have it working. Embedded below.
P. velifera (blue), P. kykesis (green) and P. orri (yellow), P. mexicana (orange).Commander Keane (talk) 13:09, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
Surtsicna, I ended up making markers for the introduced locations by reading the Poecilia velifera#Range paragraph - c:Data:Poecilia velifera introduced locations.map. I thought it might be interesting to do a switchable three map thingo, attempt below. I am not so good at the div styling to make this acceptable. In any case, the data exists, as do map options.--Commander Keane (talk) 14:25, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
Commander... you are raising the bar through the roof. I cannot wait to put it in the article! Surtsicna (talk) 14:58, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
I am glad you are pleased Surtsicna, up until Monday mexicana was a pizza flavour for me:-). You took me by surprise by adding the three-map version to the article, the alignment looks a little off as it is a bit experimental (I don't know if three maplinks are usually used like this). I changed it to use a different, more raw display, but now the button captions cause an issue. I have posted at Village Pump Tech for a suitable solution. Commander Keane (talk) 01:14, 10 June 2026 (UTC)
It had not even occurred to me that it might not be finished. I thought it looked perfect haha. Well, now I do have an excuse the postpone the nomination :D Surtsicna (talk) 07:28, 10 June 2026 (UTC)
Hi Surtsicna. I think the maps are as good as they're going to get now that someone helped out on the Village pump. Originally the bounding box was slightly misaligned, but it is good now.
I was reading the range paragraph ay Poecilia velifera#Range, and it mentions nine locations but there are more markers than that. I am guessing there are multiple markers per location, per the source. It could be a good idea to add the page and figure numbers to the Commons data pages, I just put the book title, year and author. In your link above I can't flip the pages to check them all. Commander Keane (talk) 08:51, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
I too have struggled to reconcile the 9 locations with much-more-than-nine markers on the map. It could indeed be that what one source considers a single location is marked by multiple points in the other source. Alternatively, nine of those markers could refer to naturally occurring populations and the rest to those that are presumed to be introduced.
I do love the map as it is now! I have never seen anything like that in other articles and I think it will set a new standard. Surtsicna (talk) 10:18, 12 June 2026 (UTC)

Question from Clownfishin on Final Cut Pro (22:51, 9 June 2026)
Hi, I'm trying to add a citation to one of the television shows on this page, and I'm confused how to since the section is based off a template.
Thanks! --Clownfishin (talk) 22:51, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
Hi Clownfishin. It is a known limitation that you cannot insert a citation into a template with VisualEditor. You have to do it with source editor.
The way I do it is make the citation in my sandbox, yours is User:Clownfishin/Sandbox. Then I copy the raw wikitext from the sandbox, open the article in Source editing mode (there is a button) and paste in the raw wikitext citation at the correct spot.
Let me know if you need help with that:-). Commander Keane (talk) 00:21, 10 June 2026 (UTC)

I'd thank you not to label user warning templates as erroneous when they are by definition not. If an editor makes edits which don't comply with Wikipedia policy, such as by removing sourced content without explanation or adding unsourced content, then by definition the notice is valid and not erroneous. I'll thank you not to stalk my edits and invalidate notices I leave on others' talk pages. Danners430tweaks made 06:20, 5 August 2026 (UTC)
I suppose you are talking about my edits here and here. It would be helpful if you used diffs when warning users on their talk pages (as inappropriate as those warning are) - although I understand from our conversation on your talk page that you do not have enough time to assume good faith, add sources or be productive in your editing activities, so asking for diffs is probably too much.
I am just assuming good faith when I notice an editor receiving a bad-faith warning when they are improving (or attempting to improve) the content of the article, but struggling with sources or edit summaries etc.
It is true that Special:Contributions/Danners430 is a tremendously rich source of edits that do not contribute to article content, fallaciously warn users about their good-faith edits, and attempt to bully and harass users (many of whom are new). There is no policy violation in those users' edits. I can remove “erroneous” from my vocabulary, it is hard to spell anyhow.
I agree with you when you said, rather bizarrely on a new user's talk page, Nothing erroneous about notifying an editor about the Verifiability policy. Absolutely. Letting a new user know about verifiability is great. Helping establish their edit by finding a source and handling the daunting syntax is even better. However, what you have done is revert their edit that improved the content, and tell them incorrectly in templated gobbledygook that the edit violated the verifiabiliy policy (hint: it did not). Commander Keane (talk) 07:42, 5 August 2026 (UTC)
I'll give you one opportunity here to withdraw the above accusations of bad faith before this goes to ANI. That's all I'm going to say. One chance. Danners430tweaks made 07:51, 5 August 2026 (UTC)
Sorry for the delay, I was attempting to fix another one of your messes. To be clear, I am saying you are not assuming good faith - not understanding edits when they improve the content.
