Proposed merge of List of counties in Delaware into Delaware

As the state only has three counties to begin with, do they even need to be on a list at all for any other reason than "the other 49 states do"? I thought there was a policy saying that lists have to have at least five items on them, but I can't find it at the moment. Suggest a merge of content to Delaware#Counties. Oppose Rhode Island has only 5 counties and yet it has a page, and I feel it wouldn't merge comfortably. Accordthemusician (talk) 19:12, 14 August 2025 (UTC)
  • Oppose Delaware does only have three counties, but they are discussed quite frequently as a group, so it passes WP:NLIST on its own. I don't really see a clean way this can be merged into Delaware, which is already a long article. There is also more that can be expanded on here with the history of the counties, etc. Casablanca 🪨(T) 14:52, 18 August 2025 (UTC)

Neutral Delaware does only have three counties; they could probably be fitted in with extra work on it. But like the previous messages, it is pretty notable, and people might have trouble understand how to attempt mixing the counties of Delaware page in the article itself. While it is a really short list, it still deserves a list, like all the other states do. 🍋 🍋(talk!) 22:13, 5 September 2025 (UTC)

  • Slight Support, While the state's page is rather bulky, if incorporated without any trimming, List of counties of Delaware would only add 500 more words to the article, which is rather minor. I do believe the opposition, particularly LemonJuiceIsSour's and Casablanca Rock's arguments, is a valid viewpoint. I would be rather tentative about considering Accordthemusician's comments as they seem to fall under WP:OSE. ✶Quxyz✶ (talk) 02:18, 3 October 2025 (UTC)

Proposed merge of List of counties in Delaware into Delaware, take two

I still don't feel this list should exist.

I thought there was a policy saying that lists have to have at least five items on them, but I can't for the life of me find it. WP:WIAFL dictates at least eight, but regardless of the fact that this isn't a featured list, I still feel three is too short for a list of anything.

Delaware has the fewest counties of any state in the union, with only three. At no point has anything changed about the counties -- they haven't merged, separated, etc. To have this list is like a band having a "List of members" sub-page when they've had the same three-person lineup since day one (such as Rascal Flatts), or a discography sub-page when they only released three singles (such as The Buffalo Club). It's why there's no List of shopping malls in Wyoming -- the state confirmably has only ever had three malls, so that redirects to List of shopping malls in the United States instead.

There's just no there there with this list, and I think this exists entirely because the other 49 states have one too. This is why I suggest a merge to Delaware, or possibly List of United States counties and county equivalents. The last merge discussion had multiple partcipiants pulling in different directions, with most of the opponents to merging doing so only on the basis that the other 49 states do too. TenPoundHammer, normally I would say the lack of opposition indicates WP:SILENT consensus for a bold merge, but there was opposition as recently as last year. This is going to need additional input, with hopefully at least some of it being from people uninvolved in the previous discussion. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 21:29, 12 March 2026 (UTC)
