Talk:Hollywood, Los Angeles

First studio

I have removed some sources that were not real sources and corrected the text. I have done something similar at Hollywood. I don't know enough about the subject to know: Was Nestor Film Company really the first studio here? That article itself says it was not. I'm also going to mention this on Talk:Hollywood so everyone will see it. Invasive Spices (talk) 1 October 2022 (UTC)

The lead section is an inaccurate mess

I just traced the error to two edits. The first was this one on 11 July 2022 by User:Jedi94 and the second was this one on 26 November 2022 by User:Procyonidae. The result is this laughably inaccurate sentence: "Many notable film studios, such as Sony Pictures, Walt Disney Studios, Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros. and Universal Pictures, are located in or near Hollywood." The previous sentence was much more accurate: "Many of its studios such as Columbia Pictures, Disney, Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros., and Universal Pictures were founded there; Paramount still has its studios there."

The only one that is located in Hollywood is Paramount. None of the rest are "near" Hollywood. Universal, Warners and Disney are on the wrong side of the Cahuenga Pass and Sony is in Culver City. (I photographed all five major film studios, so I have a solid sense of their geography.) Any objections before I revert that sentence back to the last good version before 26 November 2022? Lead photo

Why is the photo in the lead section using an inverted sign of the Hollywood board? Wouldn't it be better to have a photo that captures Hollywood and that board from the front? Morris (talk with this worm) 04:35, 22 July 2026 (UTC)

The picture has been stable since it was added in this edit over five years ago, and I can see why. It manages to depict a large portion of Hollywood along with the famous sign. Though seen reversed, many hikers go up there to visit the sign, and this is exactly the view they see. StonyBrook babble 06:56, 22 July 2026 (UTC)
