Who would be next?
I did a brief search to find out who the next monarchs on the first list would be. If you know of any other monarch with a longer reign than those mentioned, you can add him.

- Amazing although what about Thutmose III and Nguyễn Hoàng. Also weren't Savoy and Tuscany apart of the Holy Roman Empire. S302921 (talk) 07:40, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the comment. I will add Thutmose III. As for Nguyễn Hoàng, it appears that he was a feudal lord within the Lê Dynasty.
- Italian states ceased to be part of the HRE at the Peace of Westphalia, in 1648. But thank you for Thutmose III.There are many Egyptian pharaohs, have I missed more? 177.91.168.2 (talk) 09:15, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
- Also that about the subjects of photos i found photos for a couple monarchs online. I'm not sure if these are alk fulky reliable sources but still then.

- Is the King of Spain Charles III, who ruled Spain for 29 years, and before that was the King of Naples and Sicily for another 25 years, considered? Андрій ЯЧ (talk) 23:20, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
- Андрій ЯЧ No, because his reign was over completely separate states, unlike somebody like Ferdinand III who still ruled over Sicily for about 65 years. S302921 (talk) 14:49, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
- He should be added, he was monarch for 58 years. Not of the same country but those it matter wehn he sat of 3 thrones? Miloradovan (talk) 18:54, 21 September 2025 (UTC)
Looking back, this is a list of longest-reigning monarchs, not list of longest-reigning state monarchs. So maybe. Pe Class Heroes010210 (talk) 09:35, 7 June 2026 (UTC)

- Replying so this does not get archived again but hold on, if Italian states after 1648 were de facto independent from the Holy Roman Empire, wouldn't that mean Mary Teresa Cybo-Malaspina qualifies for the main list? I did some research and it seems it was only a nominal fief to the Holy Roman Empire (much like the Duchy of Savoy). If there exists no objections may I move her to the first listing? Revello and Senonches
In connection with these two states, there are some disagreements as to who the French possession belonged to.
"In 1654, Charles II of Mantua sold the land of Senonches and part of that of Brezolles to François-Marie de Broglie, Count of Revel. His widow resold them in 1667 to Henri Jules de Bourbon-Condé, Duke of Enghien"
Comte of Broglie was styled by courtesy, Marquis of Senonches and Brezolles

Mary Teresa Cybo-Malaspina & Charles I/III/VII
Per the arguments given on the "Who would be next" section, should these two be included on the main list? Because Italian states after 1648 were de facto independent and managed their own government whereas this is a list of longest-reigning monarchs not list of longest-reigning monarchs by state, hence why Elizabeth II's Jamaican reign is not counted separately. If there exists no objections I'll move them to the main list by next Friday. Pe Class Heroes010210 (talk) 09:39, 7 June 2026 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead with the change, I feel like the first list could benefit from a top 30 and the second from a top 150/175/200 etc in order to align with eachother however that just make it too long Pe Class Heroes010210 (talk) 18:14, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
- Would Charles III of Spain really count? Unlike George III or Charles’ own son Ferdinand of the Two Sicilies, none of the various states he ruled were the legal successor/predecessor of the other. In fact, he had to abdicate his Italian thrones in order to take the Spanish throne. So while he technically served as a monarch for 57 years, would them being completely separate states with no continuity of government count for the purposes of this list? Illini11 (talk) 20:04, 17 July 2026 (UTC)
- Very interesting question, but per my argument above I feel it could count. Pe Class Heroes010210 (talk) 20:09, 17 July 2026 (UTC)
- Ulrich V was Count of all Württemberg until its partition between Württemberg-Urach and Württemberg-Stuttgart in 1442. He continued as Count of the latter branch until his death in 1480.
- Acceded to the Union of India on 14 August 1947, but retained sovereignty over his state until his death on 31 March 1948
- some sources put his death date in 1365
- Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt was part of the German Confederation from 1815 until 1866.
- Johann Jakob I succeeded as Truchsess (Archsteward), and was raised to the rank of Graf (Count) in 1628.
- Britsh Protectorate until 1984
- Ceased to be a monarch after the German mediatisation on 6 August 1806, with effects from 20 December 1806. Lived until 13 November 1814.
- Ceased to be a Monarchy following the collapse of The British Raj on 15 August 1947, with accession to the Bombay Presidency on the 8 March 1948, and lost all powers with effect from 20 August 1948. Continued to live in exile until 1954.
