Is the International media coverage itself notable? Surely we should actually use those sources for information about the actual event. They are not sources for establishing that international media coverage is itself notable. Qualitative evidence that the international media coverage is not in itself notable is that it is not (yet?) even listed at WP:ITN/C. I see nothing on newspapers of record in major English-speaking countries such as Dawn archive and The Hindu archive.

Due to the lack of sources for notability of the coverage, I'm shifting the sentence, including the sources, to this talk page section:

The protests have been reported by mainstream media in countries such as Australia^[1][2][3] and the United Kingdom.^[4][5][6]

The Anglosphere#Core Anglosphere is only part of the international English-language media, and an even smaller part of the international media overall. Whether we like it or not, it looks like, to some degree, the same media-porn rule applies to the US: unless there is violence, protests tend to get less media attention. That doesn't mean that violent protest is wise, it just means that non-violent protest generally gets less media attention. Rexburg, Idaho 83440 also had a protest 10/18/25 for No Kings. At Porter Park 4-7pm. What I saw was 100-150 attendees. There was a family on the other side of the road that was in opposition wearing MAGA hats and holding a sign that said “Ice backs Ice”. The family was there for less than an hour. Regarding locations, this article refers to planned protests after the fact ("In Washington, events were planned in ...") and documented protests ("Protests took place in Puerto Rico ...). In terms of composition, how should we distinguish between planned protests and documented protests?

We can only use information from the source, and we should follow WP:RELTIME. So if the only source we are citing says that "Event X will take place at 15:00 on DD Oct 2025", then best is something like "Event X was expected/predicted/scheduled to take place at 15:00 on DD Oct 2025". It's a pity that we don't have an update if DD Oct 2025 is in the past, but we can't assume that the prediction was correct. Quite a few of our articles have statements where "now/currently" or "the future" is e.g. 2007 or 2015 or 2020 since the editor assumed that others would update later ...

Whether a table would make sense here depends on consensus on among editors of this article and having a check at MOS:TABLES for guidelines.

For the data itself, consider learning how to add sourced data to Wikidata. The advantage of Wikidata over https://ash.harvard.edu/programs/crowd-counting-consortium is that the Crowd-counting Consortium data (currently) requires going through GAFAM, i.e. will likely sell your personally identifying data to 200 or 400 firms (check your personally identifying web-browser fingerprint - are you unique?), while Wikidata is run by the WMF, a community-run foundation. There were three protests in the Las Vegas area according to the No Kings website. Two In Las Vegas, and one in Henderson, Nevada. I restored the {{cn}} tag in the WP:LEAD for the phrase which would make it the largest single-day protest in American history. I do not see where the AJE source^[1] states any claim about the 18 Oct protest being the biggest single-day protest in US history. Please do not attribute a claim that is not present in the source.

There is not even a section in the body of the article on overall crowd counting results, so the non-existent section cannot be summarised in the lead.

I'm not going to analyse the edit war in the lead, but in the current text in the lead, Organizers estimated that the protests drew nearly 7 million attendees, roughly 2% of the entire U.S. population,[9] while a partnership between data journalist G. Elliott Morris and The Xylom, an independent Atlanta-based science newsroom, estimated 4.4 million to 6.1 million participants.[10] Both estimates would make it the largest single-day protest in American history., the final sentence is only sourced to Wikipedia at List of protests and demonstrations in the United States by size#List, and disagrees with the Wikipedia list. Earth Day is listed as a single-day protest of 20M; June 2025 No Kings as 5M; 1986 Hands Across America#Number of participants with estimates of both ranging from 5.4 to 5.7M.

• 4.4 is less than 20, 5, and 5.4–5.7
• 6.1 is less than 20
• the range 4.4–6.1 (95% confidence interval? 68% confidence interval?) cannot be said to be greater than 5 or 5.4–5.7
• even the mean 5.25 = (4.4+6.1)/2 is less than the full range 5.4–5.7, but the median might differ from the mean

Best would be to create a section in the body of the article, where there's plenty of space for describing the estimates and their uncertainties properly. Many stories quote 2,700 events and total of 7 million attendees. If you are trying to verify would you want to build cascading templates for regions of USA? Most larger events have drone stills and video footage from TV and newspapers. Piñanana (talk) 02:29, 22 October 2025 (UTC)

Not sure the depth we're going for here, but there were three separate events in Pittsburgh alone. There was also a protest in Indiana PA (I was there, I'd estimate it was only about 250-300 people). In addition, I know of protests in Erie, Harrisburg, Allentown, and Scranton. There were likely even more across the state. Estar8806 moved this page, and the corresponding June page, to their present pagenames, starting with the date, instead of ending with the date in parentheses. I think this needs some discussion, because I'm not convinced that it was a good idea. Readers putting a search term in the search box are unlikely to start with the date. @Tryptofish We don't generally disambiguate events parenthetically with dates, see WP:NCEVENT. Well, I'll just say for the heck of it that I kind-of agree that we really don't need to have a city-by-city blow-by-blow detailing in the way that we do, and that would mitigate the problem of a too-lengthy merged page. But I think so many editors are so invested in everyone having their own little bit of it, that this won't get consensus. I totally disagree. Both of these articles should be expanded, not merged. I agree that the articles should be more than lists of participating cities, but we know this is possible because of similar articles like Impeachment March and Not My Presidents Day. Many of these sections for U.S. states could have more detail about local organizers, notable speakers, counterprotests, march paths, impacts, responses by law enforcement, etc. I strongly oppose merging. ---Another Believer _(Talk) 21:17, 24 October 2025 (UTC)

With respect, 90% of the content in both articles is completely worthless as prose and is best served as lists, tables and graphs. That leaves room for a huge expansion based on actual informative prose that describes what the protest movement is and what it is attempting to achieve. At the moment, the worthlessness of the prose is demonstrated by zingers like "In Louisiana, events were planned in Alexandria, Lafayette, Lake Charles, New Orleans, and Shreveport-Bossier." Yeah, that's not needed. It's completely out of date, doesn't tell us anything about what happened, and just reads like a glorified listicle. Merge. Viriditas (talk) 21:22, 24 October 2025 (UTC)

Proposition: It is now one week post-event. I think we can start culling the pre-event "planned events" content, and their associated refs, in preference for the during- and post-event sources that verify something actually happened in each of the communities that we have listed. There are a number of sections that have a bunch of good information about what happened, then a final sentence that says "events were also planned here, there, and that other place". I believe that that content has now become redundant, outdated, and fails the WP:10YEARTEST. In particular (to be culled immediately/first), the newspaper articles that are just laundry lists of "here's where every event is planned all around our state" (and our matching list of communities based on that mere mention that it might happen).

Exception: I think we can hold on to the planned events that might have been particularly/possibly notable (e.g. the events where a certain speaker was expected to show, or the event garnered more than just a mere mention in a list of communities that might hold events) for a little longer, at least until we can confirm whether or not the event happened and the person did speak. - Adolphus79 (talk) 18:45, 26 October 2025 (UTC)

Strong oppose. Sure, updating is needed and we should prioritize post-event coverage over pre-event coverage, but I don't see a need to remove mention of cities where events were planned. Averygrace07 (talk · contribs) recently added a subsection on "Social Media Impacts" to the "Background and organizers" section. I later removed it, noting in my edit summary that "this is an odd section. an "impact" doesn't belong in background. and SHOCK they used social media and hashtags to organize? what's the historical/enclopeedic value in all this". I stand by that assessment, but Averygrace07 just put it back without any acknowledgment of my resons.
