The result of the move request was: not moved. No consensus that the proposed full legal names are the players' common names. Consensus favored keeping the current titles. (closed by non-admin page mover) In solidarity, Destinyokhiria (talk / cont) 19:49, 29 July 2026 (UTC)

– Someone familiar with the topic, but not an expert in it, will not be able to distinguish between Rodrigo (footballer, born August 1980) and Rodrigo (footballer, born October 1980), but they may be able to distinguish between Rodrigo Baldasso da Costa and Rodrigo Lacerda Ramos BilledMammal (talk) 05:05, 22 July 2026 (UTC)

If Rodrigo (footballer, born October 1980) has to be changed, it better not be to Rodrigo Lacerda Ramos, which is his full name, but to Rodrigo Ferrugem, which was mostly called throughout his career. WP:COMMONNAME BEN917 06:42, 22 July 2026 (UTC)
Looking at the article, it says that he was known as just Ferrugem in Brazil, but he also played outside Brazil. So did he have multiple nicknames or something? The archive citation for that statement is nonfunctional. Was the player even known mononymously as anything outside of Brazil? Raskuly 🐰 18:10, 22 July 2026 (UTC)

Full names are not natural disambiguations? BilledMammal (talk) 03:09, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
Only if they're commonly called those names, which is not really the case for many of these. Ortizesp (talk) 13:54, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
Not when there's this many players. People searching for these footballers will not know full name, but they know how old they are and therefore (roughly) when they were born... GiantSnowman 18:34, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Oppose the mass renaming, each of these persons has consistently been referred to in the media by their first name alone, which is effectively their WP:COMMONNAME. For specific cases these should be discussed on their own page. Specifically for this page:
Rodrigo (footballer, born October 1980) is called 'Ferrugem' (transcribed Φερούζεμ, lit. Feroύzem) in Greek media 1 2Reliable? or 'Dunga Ferrugem' (Ντούνγκα Φερουζέμ, the first word being the translation of Dunga's name in Greek - el:Ντούνγκα) 3. RSSF also refers to him as 'Rodrigo Ferrugem' 4. On this basis, I think there is a reasonable basis to WP:BOLDly move the page to Rodrigo Ferrugem, which will help differentiate with Rodrigo (footballer, born August 1980). • Oppose per COMMONNAME. And several of these have other names' they're better known by than their full legal names.--Ortizesp (talk) 13:53, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Oppose footballers' dates of birth may be trivia, but can be at least estimated by the years they played. For example, a player known for the 1966 World Cup was probably born in the early 1940s or late 1930s. Middle and surnames of mononymous footballers are even more obscure. How many Leeds fans would pick their Rodrigo out of a list of full names, when the media only uses one name?

  • Support. Looking at the sources cited in the articles, I'm not convinced that the full names are as unrecognizable as is being made out, whereas "footballer, born August 1980" and "footballer, born October 1980" are about as unhelpful as disambiguators can get. • Oppose – Completely outside the current standard. Svartner (talk) 07:58, 25 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME. -- Necrothesp (talk) 11:41, 27 July 2026 (UTC)
