Q1: Why is the article named Rwandan genocide and not Genocide against the Tutsi?
A1: Because the Google Ngram viewer, which searches for the popularity of terms across all indexed English books, currently has Rwandan genocide as the common name. Wikipedia generally prefers the common name since we prioritize people finding the article. In addition, there have also been multiple RFCs, seen in the archives above, that have affirmed this article's current title. Q2: Why does the article show a graphic image of a dead person? Isn't that too extreme/inappropriate?
A2: Wikipedia does not have a restriction on what can or can not be shown in its articles. The image serves to establish background to the reader, providing context that is hard to convey using just words. To quote WP:NOTCENSORED: "Wikipedia may contain content that some readers consider objectionable or offensive—even exceedingly so. Attempting to ensure that articles and images will be acceptable to all readers, or will adhere to general social or religious norms, is incompatible with the purposes of an encyclopedia." |

The United Nations acknowledges that "The 1994 Genocide Against The Tutsi" is the correct terminology to describe the events of April 7, 1994. This clarification aims to eliminate ambiguity in the historical discourse. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brandobby (talk • contribs) 07:31, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
“The Naming”
If the UN has already agreed that the correct term is “The 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi” why do you call it the Rwanda Genocide?? Clearly there’s a side that was targeted. ~2026-21850-25 (talk) 22:25, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
The number of people who were Killed
I find it wild that you needed to mention ‘Scholarly estimates’ while the government that does censuses gave a number😏 ~2026-21850-25 (talk) 22:31, 8 April 2026 (UTC)

- What I think should be changed (format using {{textdiff}}): change the term "Rwandan genocide" to "1994 genocide against Tutsi in Rwanda".
- Why it should be changed: the name matter because Rwandan genocide leaves the ambiguity and room for denialism and revisionist. the 10 stages of genocide by Dr Gregory Stanton, all of them point to one group Tutsi and yes, others died too mostly because of their opposition to the genocide idea and the act itself. i urge you to correct the term so it can align with the accurate and factual term
